2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHey Hillary fans
I've got a word or two
To say about the things that you do
You're telling all those lies
About the good things that we can have
If we close our eyes
Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you
I left you far behind
The ruins of the life that you had in mind
And though you still can't see
I know your mind's made up
You're gonna cause more misery
Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you
Although your mind's opaque
Try thinking more if just for your own sake
The future still looks good
And you've got time to rectify
All the things that you should
Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you
Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you

(34,845 posts)You could say maybe, if you can convince enough people to think differently, then we CAN get Sanders into office. Sure, that's possible. But do you really think you can convince tens of millions of people to change their minds?
You can't. It's never been done before and haranguing people on an Internet board sure as hell isn't going to change things. So why all the snark? It proves nothing. It contributes nothing.

(34,845 posts)To me, it shows someone who is on the verge of giving up after telling himself over and over and over that he just needs to try a little more, go a little further.
But he looks like he's finally reached a point where he's willing to give up, not knowing that his goal really is just a little further this time.
At what point does one truly give up? Do you keep trying until death or do you recognize reality and move on to something else? It's a question we all ask ourselves from time to time.
But my point is that climbing a mountain is probably easier than changing the minds of millions of voters. There are some lost causes and we need to recognize them when we see them.
But maybe I'm wrong and we need to go a little further. I don't think so but then I'm not climbing a mountain so I can afford to watch those who are.

(39,215 posts)even one vote has been cast don't you? And you are also ignoring that Bernie is saying things that are true and need to be said even if the country is not willing to listen to them yet.

(34,845 posts)I'm suggesting the vitriol needs to stop. There is nothing to be gained by it. I am not saying, relax, you'll enjoy it, trust me. I'm simply pointing out that Clinton really looks to have the nomination and the election sewn up so trying to climb a mountain by one side castigating the other seems to be a fruitless mission.
I would prefer Sanders to Clinton (I've said that from the start and still do) but I don't think Sanders has a prayer of winning. I, for one, am not going to climb a mountain on his behalf when there doesn't seem to be anything to be gained by it.
