Related: About this forumIf Hillary gets the nomination she really needs to put Bernie or Warren on the ticket
otherwise I fear part of the base will stay home. Not saying I will because nothing will keep me away from the polls but young voters need someone to be excited about and they are not excited about Hillary. It's predicted to be extremely close and if Hillary does get the nomination which I anticipate even as Sanders supporter, she will need those youngsters energized.
They might be a pretty good combo too: http://www.bustle.com/articles/117203-a-hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-ticket-could-be-the-right-combo-to-get-things-done

(22,871 posts)I thought to myself that that seemed like an odd pick.I was wrong then and could be wrong this time too. Now I'm going to have to go find what the reasoning was for picking Biden.

(89,262 posts)Obama had it but just having biden on the ticket was helpful in getting those who liked Obama but only wish he had more experience.

I think Biden put people on the fence but wanting to vote for Obama, at ease.
*regular guy (as implied by tweety etc) is just near the edge of being racist..imo

(54,436 posts)But as Maryland is probably safely blue in presidential elections, his coattails might not be sufficient in a close election. If the Republicans lean toward picking a total maniac (Trump, Carson, etc.), it won't matter. But this isn't 2008, and we're not coming off 8 years of a disastrous Republican administration, so the 2016 Democratic nomination is not the sure path to the White House it was in 2008, even though if common sense were to prevail, it should be.
Castro is a little green, and Biden's foreign policy experience would be missed in the VP slot. Besides, there's no way he'll energize enough Hispanics to carry Texas for us--not yet, anyway.
I'm sure both Sanders and Clinton are thinking very hard about possible VP selections. If they're smart (and they both are), I think they'll both keep their mouths shut about it for the next 6 to 8 months.

The problem for liberals would be that the VP has almost no power.

(16,685 posts)Everyone knows the VP is an impotent role. They have no influence on policy. Honestly if Sanders agreed to be her VP I'd lose a ton of respect for him. She wants it so bad she's gonna have to do it on her own. She'll have my vote only because of how bad the Republicans are. I'm sure OMALLEY would be glad to take the spot.

(12,675 posts)or Clinton/Rice. I like Susan Rice, and she has incredible knowledge and skill in a world where everything is global and digitized. At the very least I hope they both make cabinet positions--Rice for SoS, Warren for either Labor or Commerce.
We have so many awesome Democratic women! It's their time to shine.

(22,000 posts)If Sanders loses, he needs to stay in the Senate. We also need Warren in the Senate. Now what it seems like you are saying (correct me please if I am wrong) is that we need to put someone who is more progressive on the ticket with her. I totally agree with that. The problem therein is that would be Clinton's choice IF she were the nominee. As the nominee she doesn't have to do jackshit (thought it would be foolish for her not to). She's going to listen to her advisers and test which way the wind is blowing if she is the nominee.
