(18,421 posts)Really?
I've come to expect more from a civil rights icon.
Much more.
Gender is a bull shit reason.

(7,028 posts)I doubt very much that Bernie was on Hillary's radar in '95 in Beijing.
Don't let his insular nature become yours. Her work and circle of collegues and influence in this go beyond a few marches.

(1,309 posts)Hillary gladly wears her pink outfit, so feminine, and delivers a horrible litany of abuses females unfairly suffer around the world yet every candidate for the democratic nomination opposes all of the abuses. While the horror of these practices inflame our passions and create outrage , we must not be misled into believing only a woman can or willl address them, or is biologically better able to do so. Auditing the military, we were often reminded we were not in the military and somehow did not have the mindset to understand, our reply then to them and to this video is it does not take a chicken to smell chickenshit.
I see nothing in this video other than Hillary as a woman or as Secretary of State got to declare to the world that females have their rights violated in disgusting and deadly ways and I thank her for it. My wife , my daughter and many of my female friends thank her for it but we are not willing to accept she favors human rights over her rich donors. Her unwillingness to support a living wage of $15 causes us to declare while she is in support of equality of the 99 percent, we worry about her concern for the dignity of the working person, female or male. Yes using the phrase womens rights are human rights but liberal men including both running for President already knew that and why is it that Hillary does not use the term Living wage but continues to use the words minimum wage? Maybe her focus is on the amount her rich donor class would have to give up rather than the actual needs of the people. Her language is republican language and certainly does not support any claims to being progressive.
So lets throw this red herring out, gender is not the issue. Gender is not the solution anymore than race was 8 years ago. There is no difference on the abuse of females, nor on pay comparability except that Berniie or O Malley may favor more family leave etc. Go Bernie!

(7,028 posts)like John Lewis and Dolores Huerta prefer to support Hillary's candidacy, your rant notwithstanding. Most Democrats it seems feel that this woman at, this time, is the right woman and the best qualified candidate, your rant notwithstanding.
She is the most admired worldwide as well. Her candidacy and her presidency will inspire more people into action on a variety of humanistic causes, your rant notwithstanding.
Yes gender is an issue. It's always an issue where power and influence is concerned.

Dolores Huerta said that in this case she would rather have a woman in the White House than a Latino REPUBLICAN. She feels ALL the GOP candidates are bad for America and specifically bad for Latino Americans.
Quite a difference from your restyling. Maybe rethink your whole post?

(21,054 posts)Here is what this civil rights icon thinks:
"We have to look at economics. Our minimum wage should be over $20 an hr. CEO's are getting millions for 1 year of work.
#LatinoHeritage"
The above quote is from your article.
Wonder if she knows that Hillary -- who gets $200K for a lecture, which would for 10 lectures/year = $2-million/year -- thinks those who break their backs to put food on her table only deserve $12/hour.

(1,309 posts)How insulting? Maybe you could make a better point- outrage may not cut it in my humble opinion. As Shakespeare says me thinks thou doth protest too much.
I am not saying this is you, but I get why I would be more willing to overlook contradictions from those in positions of authority or those perceived as somehow superior. You save a lot of energy, you never lose battles you never fight, you remain secure that the childish way we were taught to view the world continues, giving us a false sense of well being.
When you ask others to overlook contradictions they perceive, many of us find that very, very condescending but we
continue to think as analytically as we can and hope our conclusions benefit all of us, including you. Peace and blessings.

(18,402 posts)and long experience in the real world about how things actually get accomplished. Bernie fans like to cherry pick single campaign statements as biblical truth and assume their authoritarian leader will carry them out come hell or highwater.
Who's being authoritarian? The world is far more complex, and the issues infinitely more multidimensional than mere slogans or campaign statements can convey.
And yes, her intelligence was being questioned by stating "I wonder if she knows." That woman knows more than anyone on this board ever will.

(15,438 posts)how far that will get him. This Congress hasn't even been able to pass a minuscule $10.10 minimum wage, but Sanders can go all out and promise a $15 minimum wage? And people actually believe him??
Hillary Clinton is keeping it real. We can work toward more, but a $12 p/h minimum wage is a GOOD start since most States that have passed legislation to raise the minimum wage have already enacted a $10 minimum wage.

I did tell them them that if I didn't need the money I would have loved to work for them since they were such a historic group.
The area was where Grapes of Wrath was filmed. Weedpatch camp was the migrant camp in the novel. It is still there in Arvin CA. The post office at the camp was the gate house in the movie. John Steinbeck dedicated the novel to the man who ran the camp.
I worked in Arvin city offices as a temp and got to know lot's of the people there. There is so much history from the dust bowl days and the grape boycott days there.

I don't have anything negative to say about him, I'm just saying that some candidates will wither under the national spotlight, and there's no way to know if it will happen until they're thrown into the fire

(1,309 posts)and sexism benefit primarily, and we can see both are used widely to create hate and division in order to perpetuate the careers of politicians serving as minions for their rich donors. It is somewhat contradictory that Huerta would choose to endorse Hillary while proclaiming that the workers need $20 per hour at the same time. Is it possible that Hillary is already negotiating for her rich donors when she proclaims she and her economist friends favor a $12 minimum wage rather than the $15 being fought for across the nation? Sometimes with friends like that, you don't need enemies!
