"I have looked at the legislation that Sen. Sanders has proposed..."

Last edited Sun Nov 15, 2015, 02:29 AM - Edit history (1)

And she's claiming that Bernie wants to get rid of Medicare, Medicaid, Tri-Care, children's healthcare programs, etc.

Whoever did the "looking" for her gave her some bad information. I'm not impressed.

(On edit, Hillary said "eliminate" instead of "get rid of".)

What she said about Bernie's plan is a lie, and I don't care if this post gets removed either.

http://pnhp.org/blog/2013/12/10/bernie-sanders-introduces-s-1782-the-american-health-security-act-of-2013/

The American Health Security Act of 2013 (S. 1782) provides every American with affordable and comprehensive health care services through the establishment of a national American Health Security Program (the Program) that requires each participating state to set up and administer a state single payer health program. The Program provides universal health care coverage for the comprehensive services required under S. 1782 and incorporates Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and TRICARE (the Department of Defense health care program), but maintains health care programs under the Veterans Affairs Administration. Private health insurance sold by for-profit companies could only exist to provide supplemental coverage.

Those programs would be incorporated, and people would not lose coverage - in fact, coverage would be improved.

Words mean things.

I don't think she said that people would lose their coverage. As you said, words mean things and what she said was 100% accurate.

(and other programs) by replacing it with the new program. The new program is to be administered by the STATES! Which means that each state will determine how the funds will be used for coverage. Like Medicaid which goes under other names in many states.

Living in a red state (TN), after enjoying the functioning of a blue state (NY), I've witnessed the inequities for years. TN cuts off new coverage whenever they feel like it.

Just the thought of TN controlling my Medicare is enough to send me into a panic attack.

Unless he's planning on calling it Medicaid. But it would provably all get scrapped for a National Institute of Health.

He wants to expand on those programs.

To use the phrase "get rid of" was not being truthful -- especially when announced on tv as fact in a setting with time constraints that didn't allow Bernie to respond to it. He raised his hand several times, to no avail.

I know people like this. Does not make me admire them. Does not make me think that they are cunning nor smart. This is what they do best. Some admire people like this. I look for more in a human. Would have hoped for more sometime in these debates from her because I feel all of candidates should pass muster.
