Sanders Camp: Tax Hikes Only for ‘People Making a Lot of Money’

Sanders Camp: Tax Hikes Only for ‘People Making a Lot of Money’

“I don’t really see that,” says Tad Devine, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’s senior strategist, of a proposal to raise tax rates on middle class, according to Politico. “I don’t see tax rate increases involving anyone other than people making a lot of money.”

“I don’t know if the Congressional Budget Office itself will be involved, but it’s going to be legit. The think tanks are going to say these are real numbers. This is not somebody’s tax plan that makes no sense in the real world. He’s a serious legislator,” Devine says, according to report

NOTE: Report follows Clinton campaign statement earlier Tuesday attacking Sanders over middle-class tax increases, saying Clinton “will make sure the wealthiest Americans finally start paying their fair share”

6. Sanders admits that the proposed Senate tax legislation he backs would raise

taxes on everyone.

...when pressed by Stephanopoulos about whether the proposed Senate tax legislation he backs, which would use a payroll tax to fund a mandate for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave from all U.S. employers, Sanders confirmed that the bill would require taxing all citizens -– not just the top 1 percent.

"[The payroll tax] would hit everyone –- yeah, it would. But it would mean we would join the rest of the industrialized world and make sure that when a mom has a baby she can in fact stay home with that baby for three months, rather than going back to work at the end of one week," Sanders said.

Um, no. As a Californian in a higher tax bracket, I'm already taxed up to the wazoo. Don't need our Federal taxes to be raised, as well.

I love being able to pay my taxes, I feel it is my duty, but I don't want to pay higher taxes on my already high taxes. My job is tied to NYC, I can't move to a low cost area of the country.

It isn't rich either. And Obama has long defined this amount as middle class.

Sure it's upper middle class. But not remotely rich or people deserving of tax increases.

.... that is lack of detail on his proposals will not EVENTUALLY include taxes on the middle class, we should just trust Saint Bernard. Right?

OMFG. Really??? Especially since he has already admitted that his proposals will be paid for by taxes on all of us? Sorry, his campaign is a joke at this point.
