SEIU President: Clinton Plan for Investments in Caregiving Economy Will Improve Lives for Caregivers and Those in Their Care
WashingtonToday, SEIU President Mary Kay Henry released the following statement in support of Hillary Clintons plan to address the care economy vital for Americas seniors and people with disabilities.
Our nations home care providers make it possible for our seniors and those with disabilities to continue living at home with dignity and independence. In todays economy these workers who feed, bathe and dress our loved ones dont make enough to provide the basics for their own families.
"This summer Secretary Clinton met with SEIU home care providers, hearing firsthand the struggles they face to support their families while they provide life enhancing, compassionate care for others. She is committed to helping them raise their wages and join together in a union when she is in the White House.
"Clintons plan would help families have access to quality, affordable care at every stage of life, regardless of income or long term care needs. It shows she understands the value of the dedicated work these caregivers provide and the value of a robust well-trained caregiving workforce to boost our communities.
"Hillary Clintons commitment to Americas care economy is one more example of her commitment to fight, win, and deliver a better future for working families.

(7,393 posts)This is about families who need caregivers. It would be so great if Bernie supporters actually understood these types of issues. Sadly, it seems many do not.

(7,393 posts).... when it is clearly about helping families that need a caregiver?

Hillary always LEARNS directly from the people she talks with on her listening tours

In August @HillaryClinton met #homecare providers & consumers to discuss care crisis. Plan-> http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/22/politics/hillary-clinton-tax-break-caregivers/index.html
..........Clinton met with home care workers at an emotional event in August, where a number of the women participating in the Los Angeles roundtable cried about their jobs and their pay.
9 photos:
"We are the only people that they see. We are there miracle workers," Lizabeth Bonilla, a home care worker from Las Vegas, told Clinton about her job. "When I leave and they give you a smile, that is all I need. I am OK with that."
Clinton told Bonilla, "You are the kind of person we want taking care of people. Somebody who is really doing it because of your heart. You shouldn't find yourself in the position you are in after working for so hard, so long."
Clinton's proposal is the latest part of an effort by her campaign to focus on tax breaks for the middle class. Clinton pitched a tax cut aimed at curbing high health care costs on Friday in Tennessee.
Tax cuts will be the focus of her next few events, according to aides. The reason for the focus is both policy and politics: Clinton mentioning tax cuts allows her to hit Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, her closest Democratic opponent, for backing proposals that would raise taxes on middle income earners................

(26,549 posts)A tax cut when the proposed credit already eliminates their tax liability?
How about we just pay them a lot more instead of pretending to be Republicans with tax policy?
JaneyVee
(19,877 posts)Even Keynes was all for tax cuts. I don't know what kind of economic system you're advocating for.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)And if only such a law didn't have an explicit exemption for these caregivers.
Nah, can't close that. Let's give them a once-a-year payment that's smaller and use that to tout how great they are.

(26,549 posts)Which would give these same "caregivers" far more money.
But you refuse to believe any other candidate has any proposals on anything. Even when you are provided links.

(4,211 posts)The standard seems to be: attack anything that supports Bernie, post biased polls that favor Hillary, attack anything that brings attention to hillary's less-than-stellar voting record and lapses in judgment.
It would be nice if certain Hillary supporters could stick to the issues and not parrot GOP lies and talking points.
(Note to any potential juries, this is not an attack or a broad brush comment)

(7,754 posts)since most of those using home care are elderly and most no longer pay taxes, this doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

(1,209 posts)style tax scam. Not many will benefit from this tax credit it is just another sounds good idea like all conservative based, tax credit ideas.
If you want to help people, give them a raise. SEIU seems to have lost its way.

(4,211 posts)Tax credits are a 100% republican talking point. Anything that reduces tax burdens in place of raising wages is pure GOP crap.

(6,323 posts)Bernie believes that the challenges facing the American healthcare system need to be addressed immediately--they are a matter of life and death. He has always believed that healthcare is a human right and should be guaranteed to all Americans regardless of wealth or income. He prizes the health and wellness of individuals over corporate profits. Additionally, he supports future legislation to curb drug costs and tackle fraud in the industry. Altogether, universal healthcare serves as a strong foundation for his policy goals.
ObamaCare was a small victory for the uninsured, but it is time to take the fight against inadequate coverage even further.
Until comprehensive universal healthcare is passed, we must expand and improve the Medicaid program.
We must expand "Medicare for All" by creating a single-payer health-care system for every American.
Universal Healthcare: Many countries have proven that a single-payer system can work--it's time for the US to join that list.
