(23,664 posts)Will they continue to evolve into a slightly less corporate entity than the GOP or will they opt to present a true choice to the American electorate?
It is indeed a life or death situation, but, I suspect, not in the way you describe it.
If the Democrats truly want to become republican lite, we are well and truly screwed.

Actual lives are not in jeopardy that wouldnt otherwise be?
Really?
Maybe that explains the attitude of my way or the highway by some

(23,664 posts)I don't think I did. I said that a lot of lives (men, women, black and white) are going to be in jeopardy in any case if the Democrats don't get their collective heads out of their asses and stop trying to coopt republican economic policies.
And while I'm at it, may I say that I find your choice of an avatar a bit confusing considering your apparent willingness to support authoritarian political leadership. You do realize that Hillary Clinton strongly opposes the legalization of marijuana, don't you?

I can see how you could be confused about that though as I do admit I put life itself above my personal choice.

(4,377 posts)Ok, 30,000 gun deaths a year. Year after year the same battle is fought with one side wanting to completely get rid of guns and the other side wanting to keep them. Because no-one is willing to compromise, nothing gets done, so each year another 30,000 lives are lost. Then a Senator and Democratic Presidential nominee comes along as says 'You know what, I think we should find some middle road where we can cut the number of deaths instead of just shouting at each other'. He is then denounced by members of his own party as a sexist and gun nut.
Want to talk more about real lives?

(16,286 posts)or yours, it is supposed to be about the bigger picture.
But i see many cant or wont see that.

(4,377 posts)Staying on guns for a moment, do we honestly think Hillary will move to get a compromise on guns? So if she's elected we'll probably continue to have 30,000 people die each year for the next 8 years. So that's 240,000 dead Americans. Obviously no candidate could prevent them all, but how many of them could be prevented? If there is another intervention into the middle east, how many more dead Americans and locals will we add to that toll? Where exactly does the change come from?
The numbers might rise under a Republican, but they aren't going to fall under a third way Democrat either. I'll support the Democratic party regardless, but its hard not to wonder whether the public need to see what a country run completely by the Republicans looks like before they'll finally support the change that is so desperately needed. Let's just hope it doesn't come to that.

(16,286 posts)This is all I am talking about
Support Bernie, but not at the expense of the other likely candidate thus risking losing the election.
There's also the argument that the only reason the Republicans are even competitive is because people don't feel like the Democratic party represents them anymore, so they stay home and disengage. By continuing to support the third way, it might just mean continuing that position where the GOP hold far more power than any of their policies deserve.
If the party gets votes regardless of what positions they run on, then how does that situation ever change? There will always be the fear of potential supreme court seats, and horrid acts by the Republicans to terrify people, so how does progress happen if the progressives will tick the Dem box every election regardless? Where then is the leverage for change?

(16,286 posts)wondering when the late model sedan would pull up to tell me my wife's son was dead?
That one?
The one where Sean Hannity went on national TV night after night POUNDING his desk DEMANDING war but was afraid to fight in it himself?
That one?
You mean the war where my stepson was one of the first of the 3rd ID to set foot in Iraq after the insane bullshit "Shock and Awe" and where he spent over a year of his life?
That one?
If I could sue the Bush Administration for the actual physical and mental harm done to myself and my wife, I would. And we werent even slightly harmed compared to most.
My nickname for my stepson is "Captain America" , because that is who he looks like and is how he lives his life, now as a fireman for a very prestigious fire department. And at the time of the war my wife worked later than I did so I was home alone from 5 to 7 each night, and I worried that they would show up (never did, he was not killed) when my wife wasnt there and then I would have to tell her that her Captain America son was dead.
Thank god I never had to do that.
Given all that, if I am willing to vote for Hillary (remember, I support Bernie), then maybe some others should ask themselves why.
The war was a lie. Curveball proved that, Bush belongs in prison
