Bernard "Bernie" Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician and the junior United States Senator from Vermont. A Democrat as of 2015, he had been the longest-serving independent in U.S. Congressional history.

I've been a Socialist most of my live. I registered as Democrat in 1966. Now, because my state has changed its laws and doesn't register by party, I'm an Independent. But, I'm still a Socialist who usually votes for Democrats.

But, I've never voted for labels.

Bernie should have backed away from this label if he had hoped to run a serious campaign.

Refusing to back away from this label no doubt further endears him to his fans, but it won't win him a national election.

There were enough votes to override his veto and he knew it, so he went along for the ride and to get some credit for a program he totally opposed.
