Straight out of my pocket! We used to take everything in flex and pay for all sorts of things for the kids meds, before and after school program etc. Bush spent us into oblivion so the Iowa pugs could cut "entitlement programs" Assholes!

My IRA has recovered from the Bush years. My architectural practice is busy doing GM car dealership remodels and VA projects. My uninsurable son has health insurance. I was able to quadruple my contribution to the Obama campaign from 2008. My friends in Italy are very happy with the U.S. again. I guess the only down side is that I’m four years older but I can’t blame that on the President.

It is republicans, in their own words, telling the World just how bad it really was 4 years ago. Don't miss that thread:

After the downturn, my business (a book design and typesetting studio) slowed down. . . . not as much as I feared it would, but it got slooowww. And now I'm busier than ever. I'm back to making contributions to my retirement fund and it's doing well. Things are looking up!!!

the Republicans in Congress had not stonewalled this President for 4 years. As it is, my retirement account is in much better shape, my house value is stable and heading up and I am on Medicare which is a fabulous federal program. I can only imagine how much better things would be for everyone if the Republicans had put politics aside and their country first.

But we are headed in the right direction.

The question should be directed to the whole:

As a whole, yes America is better off today.

Each individual person's answer will vary depending on circumstance.

I've paid off my mortgage and that money now stays in my bank account. I've had about 6% increase in my 401k since January. I've had about a 500% increase in my bank account since early last year.

It's like the old saying..."when your neighbor is laid off, it's a recession. When you are laid off, it's a depression." It's a matter of perception.

A lot of people are treading water. Home values are not moving in most parts of the country hardest hit with the crisis. People can't refinance because the banks find one excuse or another to keep people locked into the higher interest rates. You have to admit the Making Homes Affordable program is a total dud. It's not helping the people it was supposed to help. The financial system is still as corrupt as ever. The media wont even report on the LIBOR scandal. All the bankers/investors/speculators responsible for the crash either still have their jobs and/or sitting on millions living a comfortable and luxurious life.

401ks may be up, but many people have exhausted their savings over the past few years. So it's at best a wash. Salaries are stagnant. The middle class household income is earning less than before the crisis. Workforce participation is down. Jobs are not growing fast enough. There is a lot of frustration out there. It has to be acknowledged. And Obama has to explain why he needs another term. He has to show the middle class why he needs more time. He needs to have a plan.

that my household has significantly improved over the last 4 years. Maybe some of these Conservatives should take their own advice and stop blaming their failure on a government that they say shouldnt create jobs anyway and "pull themselves up by their bootstraps".
