2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWe need a black woman...
The first lady will give a great speech but I'm looking for one of those
black women in the audience to talk, the one who has worked her way up
working in the precincts to become a delegate at this convention,
not an easy task. I want that woman to get up and just let it all off
her chest in her own words. She may not believe in gay marriage but she has neighbors
who've helped in a situation and they are gay. She's going to talk
about going to Planned Parenthood because she had no alternatives
to birth control and less expensive family health planning.
I want her, with her funny hat and beads to stand up and tell it like it
is and very clearly talk about what Republicans will do if elected.
Let's get some clear talk and please don't yell into the mike...it's doin'
its job.
Enjoying the coverage on MSNBC. But please fire Matthews.

(25,053 posts)I love listening to Rachel. More is added via her and staff.
I hear what you're saying though.

(25,053 posts)I can't even imagine a black woman's life...
Sheer determination and backbone.
Come on Dems, these women deserve you to work it.

(25,053 posts)Expected, no surprises really and a bit of a repeat. We like
Obama, that's not the issue...it's the policies stupid.

In the context of the convention, the title of this thread made me think (hope?) that it might echo a sentiment of mine.
The English songwriter/singer Morrissey (of The Smiths) wrote the following in a beautiful song America Is Not The World:
And of opportunity, In a just and a truthful way
Where the president is never black, female or gay
And until that day, you've got nothing to say to me
To help me believe
So America now has and, if any sanity is left in this country, will continue to have a black President. But that's not enough...until the President is black, female, and gay we have only made one step forward.
For a musical break from the convention, there are a number of videos of America Is Not The World available, but my favorite is by Irish folksinger Christy Moore (Luka Bloom's brother):

turn black, gay and female.

(6,150 posts)One of the black Congresswomen briefly talked about coming up hard. But you may not get what you want, other than the First Lady's speech. And she's not going to get "black", it's not her message.
We'll see what we get tomorrow.
