Help Bernie Sanders Win TIMEs Person of the Year PollIt was once unfathomable that a mainstream presidential candidate, with a serious chance of victory, would declare support for cannabis legalization, let alone declare the Drug War a failure, but Sanders positions have altered the Democratic landscape on the issue. Not only has Sanders called for an end to federal marijuana prohibition, but he has forced presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton to state a more progressive position as well.
TIMEs Person of the Year has included presidents John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, but a candidate has never won the honor. Bernie Sanders campaign has broken the mold in many respects, from his criminal justice policies; to his refusal to associate with a big-money Political Action Committee; to his defense of democratic socialist policies in the tradition of Franklin Roosevelts New Deal policies; and his recruitment of an army of small donors that have eclipsed even the numbers earned by Barack Obama.
The cannabis community has an opportunity to further demonstrate the broad support and enthusiasm for a candidate that has called for an end to a failed and harmful war waged upon nonviolent citizens. While TIMEs editors will ultimately make the call on the magazines Person of the Year, Sanders winning the readers poll will help continue the momentum of this unique candidate as well as our momentum to end the disastrous War on Drugs.

(12,769 posts)and track ip addresses. The only way to actually chet is to use different facebook and twitter accounts and change ip addresses or devices. Therefore, your vote only counts once no matter how many times you reenter and click or you are going out of your way to cheat.

(14,274 posts)What is wrong with some people around here.
There used to be a phrase around here: DU this poll!
That was a call to arms to go and vote as many times as you could in an online poll to make it skew liberal.
Maybe this site isn't right for you if that gets you so upset...
Just sayin...

(37,364 posts)select the PoY and that often that person isn't the one who "wins" the internet poll? I can think of many people who have impacted events and the news.

"Winning" the TIME Magazine poll has no bearing on whom they pick.

(42,704 posts)It was a joke when a professional wrestler won it.
It was a joke when Kim Jong Un won it.
It was a joke when Narendra Modi won it.
It was a joke when Abdel Fattah el-Sisi won it.
Why? Because those "victories," like most of the "victories" in the readers' poll were the result of campaigns by the "victor's" supporters to stuff the ballot box.
Organized campaigns to get folks to vote for a particular person like the one in the OP are just another case in point.
And yet the wailing here when Sanders isn't named POTY will be deafening.
For the record, unless Time chickens out (which very well may happen), the Time POTY will be ISIS. I know that sounds disgusting, but the standard the magazine sets is "person, group, idea, or object that, for good or bad, has done the most to influence the events of the year. Sadly, that is ISIS hands down.

(42,704 posts)Something I have noted here numerous times. I've also donated to Bernie's campaign.
And I don't give a rat's ass about anybody's poll numbers, whether its an online campaign like the Time Reader's poll or a "scientific" poll for the primaries or general. Whether Bernie can pull it off is something we won't know until the first few primaries are held. Until then, it's just noise to me.
So you'll just have live with the fact I'm not going to get excited about winning a meaningless poll. Nor am I so blinded by my support for Bernie to think that he should be the magazine's choice given what the standard for being named POTY is.

For the record, I also find it embarrassing when Clinton supporters to the same things (as when they got all excited about Bernie missing the ACA vote).

There's not a damn thing wrong with it.
