2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders has shown us today his will to take control
of a situation by not letting others like the media dictate what the purpose of his press conference would be. He was in Baltimore for a reason and he stuck to it. He proved once again he is a leader and will carry out the task at hand. It truly takes guts in this day and age.

Doesn't seem to be in your wheelhouse.
And you think you are going to convince people to vote your way?
Damn, that's fucking incredible.

(16,685 posts)To stoke the fear of the public on that out of proportion to the danger actually faced by the majority of the public. Just what the terrorists want to see happen.

(10,007 posts)but it really isn't. He may have invited some criticism from the jingoistic warmonger demographic, but I think the residents of Baltimore will respect him. Also, the AA vote is more important than the jingoistic warmonger vote.

(46,179 posts)We watched the nation, and congressional Democrats, cave in to the continuous drums of "terror," thus giving a helping hand to the illegitimate Bush administration back in 2001.
I didn't follow the nation down that rabbit hole then, and I'm not doing it now.

(7,393 posts)But I don't think it will work. I think you're all taking this way too seriously anyway. It's not like people didn't know he tries to avoid FP stuff before this.
You're only real problem is his temperament. That wasn't good.

And, his temperament was fine.
No one who isn't biased can see he acted like he always does in that video. He is a bit gruff. That's simply his demeanor. He acted no differently than he usually does.

(8,352 posts)Seems Clinton supporters didn't have a problem with Hillary controlling the press and limiting it to NO questions whatsoever. Obviously she doesn't always answer questions no matter what.
But you see, that is shrewdness, that is presidential behavior, that is....oh fuck, it is just a double standard from the usual folks who love to find anything they can to yammer on about with Sanders and his campaign.
First it is not good enough Sanders with PoC and now when he says, let's focus on PoC in this country for a moment instead of ISIL yet again today, its is not good enough Sanders.
If it wasn't so fucking ridiculous, it would be quite funny!

(4,822 posts)Bernie Sanders just doesn't perform as well when he's not manipulating large crowds. Just wait till the next debate. I bet her drops 5 points in the polls overnight again.

(7,661 posts)last debate. She said she was picked on by O'Malley and Bernie and had to use the 9/11 card to divert attention! The other day she needed Supreme Court Justice Breyer to correct her freudian slip about nuking Iran.......

(45,850 posts)attempting to manipulate the flavor of the week into votes, never met a tragedy that couldn't be exploited, it's a shallow cynical approach that hopefully the public has caught on too, I know I did long ago
BTW how are things going with #Black Lives Matter, these days?

(6,960 posts)Remember, that was the big attack line from the Repuglicans and McCain in 2008 directed towards Barack Obama.
More or less the same thing ... "doesn't perform as well when he's not manipulating large crowds."
One thing about the Hillarians, they have no problem picking up Repuglican attacks and positions -- they are in full neocon dress over Sen. Sanders visit to Baltimore yesterday.

(30,481 posts)The exact opposite of what he wanted and the opposite of what anyone could describe as "control." He really took away from the issue he cares about most by doing what he did. Please read that sentence before going off half cocked. In the end the story is about him. Anyone could have told you that's what would have happened if he did what he did. Common sense.

(9,497 posts)But the people he came to see and learn from, probably liked that he wasn't taken off track.
Or does that matter?

(2,760 posts)The media is always going to ask questions that are off message for you. It happens to Presidents all the time. How many time do you see the President sitting in some photo op/press conference with a foreign leader, and the media is asking him questions that has nothing to do with the meeting that just happened?
If Bernie wants to stay on message, all he had to do was take the question and spin it back to what he wants to talk about. Pretty simple, happens all the time. Asking the media ahead of time not to ask about a certain issue guaranteed that the someone was going to ask about that issue. No self-respecting journalist allows themselves to be told what they can and cannot ask.
It was all a bit amateurish by the Bernie camp.
For the record, I think this is all less than a blip on the radar. It's a big deal on places like DU, and pretty much nowhere else. No one is changing their vote based on this, so I wish we could just put it to bed.

(7,661 posts)was asked to visit Baltimore for a reason. We were not under an immediate threat so Bernie did the right thing by respecting the wishes of the people of Baltimore. You people act like he was reading a book or something.

Bernie is fighting for "THE PEOPLE" who are sick and tired of paying for Bank Bailouts for Wall Street, Declining Wages, Poverty, Militarization of our Police against the Poor and Defenseless in our Society, the War Against Womens' Rights to Health Care and Birth Control and the Constant RW Stirring up of Lies that Keep All Americans Pitted against Each Other over Religion, Race, Gender and rights to Privacy.
