Obama channels me

I thought it was amazing that President Obama's speech hit on the two topics that were in my LTTE published today

I have not written political letters to the editor for several months. One of the Tribune's frequent conservative contributors gave me a personal shout-out in a recent diatribe against liberals expressing their opinions. With that invitation, I'll weigh in on this election.

This election is about distortions of the truth and obscene campaign contributions. Lacking a candidate they believe in, Republicans are making their case by taking the president's words out of context or just making stuff up. That's normal, but now they have much more money to spread the fertilizer.

The ultra wealthy who find democracy inconvenient are attempting to buy this election. If they succeed, less affluent Republicans who are on board for the wedge issues — guns, God and gays — will find that, with a fully loaded Supreme Court and state voter suppression laws in place, their votes will no longer be needed, nor will they.

Interestingly the only point the online rethugs wanted to argue was voter suppression.
