2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOn Request: A Democratic Primary Limerick Thread
I'll start with this one:
There was this old guy from Vermont,
Whom nothing whatever could daunt.
For US President he ran,
Drawing many a fan,
Despite having no cute logo font.

(146,324 posts)There once was a Solon named Hillary.
Some clever wags called her Billary.
She led in the polls
Meeting all of her goals,
While never quite getting all Shrillary.

In meetings that often get raucous.
If Clinton prevails
Bernie Sanders will trail,
Unless Walter can raise a big ruckus.

For a piece of that pie,
We're all closely watching that date.

He goes by Mineral Man,
Is a progressive fan,
With credential only recognized by a few.
lol. Have some fun. Limericks are fun. Making fun of mental illness isn't.

Your post was very clear.
MineralMan
(146,324 posts)I think I'll just continue to post here as I choose. It's a mistake to imply that someone has a mental illness. Bad form all around. You should probably self-delete that.

Faux pas
(14,687 posts)was a guy named trump
Who was, pretty much, just a hump.
A bigoted pig
Who's head was too big,
So, he just ended up in the dump.

(30,481 posts)There once was a man named Trump,
His campaign was one big dump,
His supporters are stupid,
His message not fluid,
He's oppressive on the stump.
Not sure if I did it right. lol.

(146,324 posts)Dump and Trump do go together quite well, don't they?

(146,324 posts)event back in California in the 70s. I sat in a decorated kitchen range box with a typewriter. It had a little dark plastic window I could see out of, and a slot for people to insert dollar bills. Every time someone inserted a dollar, I wrote a limerick about that person, who I could see. I had a roll of wide cash register paper running through the typewriter. I'd think for a minute and start typing away.
When I finished the limerick, I tore it off, rang a bell and fed it through the slot for the donor.
I raised over $200 for the charity that day. Not all of the limericks were terrific, but they were all funny, and the laughter brought more people over to put their dollar in the machine.
It was great fun. I was completely anonymous in the box.

I see a cute girl dressed in blue,
Who didn't have that much to do.
She put in a buck
And tried out her luck.
Now she has a limerick, too.
Weak, but written in less than 30 seconds.

Where Maddow sort of had a debate.
Clinton's ahead in the race,
While Bernie's trying to place,
And O'Malley's still scraping the plate.

Bravo for our hero, dear Bernie.
Hes engaged in a praise-worthy tourney.
He honors the floor
Shows hes great to his core.
Wish more Democrats joined in his journey.

when you can vote for Bernie and feel the bern.
Bernie fights for the little people and we all know that is sweet
Hillary protects the Banksters who eat caviar on Wall Street.
So do what's right and join the fight to win back the U.S.
or we will all be left to wallow in this corporate mess!!!!

(54,426 posts)There once was a SecState called Hillary
Far past the women's auxiliary,
So one day she says,
"I want to be pres,
"Let the far right go scream, rant and pillory!"
A stalwart Vermonter named Bernie
Argued better than any attorney
"If the poor can be fed,
"Give the homeless a bed,
"Then I'll be halfway home on my journey!"
An ex-governor named O'Malley
Never got big crowds to rally
But he stuck to his views
Not making much news,
Still hoping he'd add to his tally.
A not-quite-a-Texan named Cruz
Had frightening extremist views
But only preached hate,
Lost every debate,
And so was pre-programmed to lose.
A rich kid New Yorker called Trump
Thought gibberish worked on the stump
And it did, if in part,
Win voters as smart
As Gomer Pyle or Forrest Gump.

(54,426 posts)I grew up here. My dad was a one-man print journalist correspondent for a paper in a one-horse town in upstate NY. My first visit to the White House was while JFK was in office, and my first visit to the White House to meet a sitting president was in 1965 to meet LBJ. But it's always cool, and I never tire of it (plus BHO is one cool dude, no two ways about it, and Michelle wrote the book on how to combine poise, charm, intelligence and beauty--except for my own wife, that is!).

Not that a limerick has to be accurate, but this one actually is. FR was mainly pro-Cruz, with some preferring Walker, but when Trump entered he surprised me by getting a lot of support there.
