Let's get something straight, politics is ugly shit. and worse....

That is what it is, has been always will be. It is about life and death. Got it?
Sixty years ago, in the sixties, Johnson proposed and got thru medicare..He used some ugly methods to pass it. I recall hearing that he had recordings of southern politicians who were screwing around and he blackmailed them into voting for it. It is ugly, nasty shit, worse..he lied and killed hundreds of thousands in Viet Nam...in 68, I recently heard (within the last year) he was ready to cut a deal to end it, the Repulicans pulled some real ugly shit and blocked the deal, so thousands more died..Nixon did that too.

It isn't pretty and never has been. Republicans are talking about "vouchercare" which is pretty ugly. It would destroy almost all of us seniors who depend on medicare..They don't give a damn. They didn't 58 years ago, they didn't ten years ago, and they don't today.
Whatever Obama uses to win, and it is ugly, well that is what it is. The worst is yet to come from these Republicans....just wait, but Rove and Koch are not thru yet...

'by any means necessary' meme. I can think of some pretty extreme things that could be done by either side to ensure election. It is only one more step from there to disregarding the results of the election. The country survived 8 years of Bush. It will survive no matter who is elected in November. If may not be pretty, but the nation will survive.

I do think Obama will win in November. It will be close in the popular vote, but pretty substantial EC win.

3. i agree that "any means necessary" is overstating it, but "the country will survive" understates it.

hell, the earth will survive. no amount of pollution could possibly destroy the earth. it might make us extinct as a species, but the earth will just shrug and get over us like a bad cold and move on.

so what? our goal shouldn't be to merely survive as a country. we are paying and will continue to pay the price for the shrub years well into the future, and rmoney would prolong the agony.

i'm fully supportive of obama and particularly his surrogates making hard rhetorical punches and kicks and bites, and taking the occassional low road where it's effective to do so. politics ain't beanbag, it's ok to throw a little mud.

though i draw the line at the edge of the law.

2. there's "ugly" for democrats and then there's "ugly" for republicans....

repubicans think that nixon's dirty tricks were all fair in politics.
they had no problem with sabotaging peace negotiations to get their man in the white house.
they had no problem with cutting a deal with iranian kidnappers (now known as "terrorists&quot to keep hostages captive for extra months until politically advantageous for their guy.
and they have no problem suppressing votes and counting what's left fraudulently.

but of course, a democrat talking about a republican's taxes or employment history is hitting below the belt....

They will destroy everything we stand for. They have and will use every means. Look, they are trying to prevent people from voting, legally, and illegally. Those people they are trying to stop voting are "our people.".. And now, some of them even admit that they are trying to change the rules for their benefit. That is what they are: My rules or we don't play...
