Using the same analogy, a reasonable person might contact the homeowner or call the police, but never enter someone else's house just because they saw an open door. This guy was the data director for Sen. Bernie Sanders, he was experienced and his focus should have been on securing Sander's database, notifying the senator and demanding safeguards and answers from the DNC, not go off on a IT joyride and riffle through the opposition's proprietary data when he knew that it did not belong to the Sander's campaign.
