Is not a valid defense.
Suing to get access to the apartment building after you stole the TV never works out well either.
Carry on.

(7,625 posts)1. "You" (Hillary's campaign) didn't leave the door open, the building superintendent (NGP) left it open.
2. The TV was not stolen. According to the building superintendent (NGP) on their blog (http://blog.ngpvan.com/news/data-security-and-privacy): "for voters that a user already had access to, that user was able to search by and view (but not export or save or act on) some attributes that came from another campaign." Theft usually means something was taken and the vendor says that didn't happen.
3. If the Sanders campaign had stolen the TV the proper recourse would have been to turn the matter over to the proper authorities for investigation and adjudication. DWS decided that the Sanders campaign should be locked out of their own apartment until she determines that they did not steal the TV.

(9,527 posts)At the very best the company can say is that they don't have a button that says Export or Save to Desktop on it.
Other ways to get the data from a screen include taking a picture on your phone or writing it down.
And in the analogy, staff for the Sanders campaign have said that they stole the tv and pointed to the guy they say did it, but there has been some reporting that indicates it was several other staffers including one who took steps to hide his efforts. The only investigation is to how many tvs were stolen, not if a tv was stolen.

(7,625 posts)I made the same point you are making earlier: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=1291908
I suppose it's possible to take a shitload of screen caps but, given the size of voter files and the short duration of the "open window" I think that's unlikely. I have VAN access on a geographically limited basis. The software includes facilities to export and copy data. Any competent thief would use those facilities. Of course, if you're convinced the Sanders campaign is dishonest, you are probably comfortable making additional unflattering assumptions.
But I digress from my subject line. Alleged theft or no theft, is locking Sanders out of his own apartment an appropriate response from the DNC?

(707 posts)But that is not what happened here.
In this case HRC and Bernie agreed to use the DNC cloud server that hosts voter files. Both campaigns could then go in and make notes on individual voters habits with only that campaign being able to see those notes in the primary. They do this so that in the general election the winner has access to all the notes whether the winner's campaign wrote them or not.
To make this possible a company was hired by the DNC to make sure only the correct campaign saw their notes. They failed to secure the notes!
So a high level campaign person for Bernie runs a search report and noticed he could see HRC notes. This is after this same issue happened before and was reported. So good bad or otherwise according to the campaign aide to "prove" he could see the other campaigns data notes he ran 25 different reports in a matter of 40 minutes with the idea that if he can see theirs the other side can see ours and ran reports that outlined the type of data that was open. No reports were opened only saved on the DNC cloud server.
Now in response to this the DNC effectively shut down Bernie's campaign when actually the fault lies with the company that the DNC hired.

(8,462 posts)And you looked in the glove box when I told you I locked it. And then you tell me it wasn't locked so I lock it then run to the media saying you're a thief and a liar. Then I lock you out of this car in breech of your rental agreement. And it's all your fault even though it wasn't you but your uncle Al who looked in the glove box. And you disowned your uncle. But you will pay because my buddy doesn't like you.

(110,159 posts)You know. Theft.
But hey, in the name of integrity, the campaign of integrity, we can find our way to excuse and validate theft.

(8,462 posts)But my IT guy didn't lock either box. I'm still not letting you drive. All your fault for what someone else did. Because my buddy still doesn't like you.
