2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow Hillary handles "Datagate"at the debate will decide if I vote for her or stay home in a General
Presuming she wins the nomination of course.
If she handles it gracefully tonight and says that she supports data access being restored to Bernie now that the staffers have been fired and its no longer an issue, then I will support her in the General.
But if she decides to put a knife in Bernie's back and twist it by making it an issue of character, questioning the legitimacy of his campaign, or otherwise adding fuel to the fire by saying Bernie is being disloyal, irresponsible etc., then I will stay home in the general election.
This is the test of character and integrity I and many other Bernie supporters have been waiting to see from Hillary-- especially after what Bernie did for her with the e-mail situation in the other debate. Hopefully she passes the test.

(1,238 posts)They've been held responsible. To add fire to this issue and make it an attack on Bernie would be politically calculating, unnecessary and would show a lack of integrity.

(30,481 posts)Then again, after watching his campaigns response yesterday, I understand why his supporters want all eyes back on Clinton.

(11,417 posts)Now your guy I don't know. He says he is going to attack Hillary on foreign policy.
So did this guy

(10,879 posts)OP has a lot emotionally invested in this campaign.
I get that.
And, I don't think there's anything to worry about tonight.
It will be gracefully handled, I bet.
Hillary and Bernie have been friends for years. They like and respect each other.
If Hillary gets the nomination, Bernie will do all he can to help her in November.
The thought of Trump, Cruz, or Rubio will scare all of us to death.

(337 posts)Show me you're above it, Hillary. That's what a leader does.
Sometimes being "wrong" or "right" right at that moment is secondary to how you handle the situation.

(41,600 posts)It's not part of her character to be gracious and magnanimous.

(337 posts)Yes, let's punch down and piss off the votes she's gonna need next fall.
If she's that politically dense, she's not intelligent enough for the WH.

(7,011 posts)It is more likely that Bernie will attack the DNC. The Bernie supporter in the OP projects a bunch of partisan posturing upon Hillary, when Hillary did no wrong and has comported herself gracefully and Presidentially throughout her campaign.
She is not going to attack Sanders. But I suspect that 90% of Bernie's supporters hope that Bernie attacks Hillary. And, if he does, she will defend herself. His supporters here demand the campaign be let off the hook for a low blow and allowed to keep swinging for a knockout with a roll of quarters in their fist.

(337 posts)I'm very concerned they're playing with fire, if victory in 2016 is THE goal.
But in the short term, it's becoming clear that both ba$e$ can benefit from the red meat. And the scenario you described would immediately give both bases what they want. But would it risk alienating those bases 10 months from now?

(10,565 posts)She doesn't need to go after Bernie. She will stay above the fray.
