How to help your local Obama campaign if you have a little $$$

Last go-round I was short on time and since I am on the phone all day, I wasn't willing to make calls at night as well.

But I had a little money in my pocket, so I asked how I could best help their effort.

So here's what I found out: Just showing up with money doesn't actually help the campaigners in your area. Money has to go through the campaign itself.

BUT if you show up with office supplies - they are allowed to take them. I asked what they needed and didn't need, and at MY local office they needed:
- Giant markers for all sorts of signs like "volunteers - report to 3rd floor" etc (sharpies are best)
- posterboard (damned expensive)
- tape
- copy paper
- snacks
- water
- soda
- Staples gift cards

YMMV, and it's best to ask for a "wish list" first, but you will see some happy, happy staffers if you show up with giant sharpies and posterboard - trust me.

And some people may have discount cards or coupons, which allows the buyer to stretch the donation further, presumably, than the campaign.
