I'm going to support a Democrat in the General Election

Call me funny that way. It might be Bernie Sanders. It might be Hillary Clinton. Oh hell, in the case of a big old meteor strike, It could be Martin O'Malley (who I love, by the way, and I am not being snarky, I just get math) or even a Democratic candidate to be named later. The reason why is simple--

As Ronald Reagan once said, someone who stands with me 80% of the time is not my enemy. I want someone who is pro-woman, pro-LGBT, pro-multiculturalism, pro-choice, anti-stupid war, pro-science and education, accepts anthropogenic climate change as real and will take steps to mitigate it, and understands that our current level of economic inequality is not sustainable within a civil society--and if you want civility--you have to pay folks.

Only a democratic candidate will give me anything like a percent of the things I care about. Any Republican you could name would get me none of the things I care about. I will vote for a democrat for all the positions unless I personally know they are creepy as hell, in which case I report their personal badness to the appropriate authorities. Otherwise it is Democrat, Democrat, Democrat all the way down any given ticket.

This isn't "Ben Carson says Merry Christmas" level bravery, I know. But it is how I think one might strategically expect to get offices filled with more-liberal people. Even if they aren't as liberal as you like, they will be more liberal than any Republican. Democrat, democrat, democrat. Up-ticket, down-ticket and sideways. Not voting is never an option.

"When I get up in the morning I open my eyes before I walk thru the room to start my day"

Because to not do so would be stupid and harmful.

Amazing, isnt it, that you have to explain this to some folks.

And agree on most others. I'd only say that ideological creep can happen, and I think we should vote as hard left as we can to correct the drifting of the party.

let those come to us, but we should organize vigorously and do it block by block in every neighborhood, which is what hubby and I do before every primary and election day. Get out there, folks, organize around your principles. Let your voices be heard.

has a candidate running that will represent your interests?

Because, if you say it that way, you have to name the person you are thinking of, because otherwise, you are simply cheesed off that some Democrat isn't perfect enough. Who do you think you can vote for that will win and is not a democrat that will represent you?

when talking about pro-war, pro-prison, pro-Wall Street candidates, I can effectively write them off as not worth reading.

Jill Stein, for example, would make an excellent President and much more closely represents my interests than all but one of the other candidates currently running.

The Democratic Candidate must earn my vote. If the Democratic Candidate doesn't earn enough votes to win the General Election, then the responsibility for that is on the Candidate, not me.

/bye.

Yay, ok? But we don't live in that world where voting for her sends any practical measurable signal to the universe about what we want. She just loses, and your vote gets flushed down the toilet. Good day!

Democrats continue his disastrous economic policies. I will only support politicians who fight Wall Street and the 1%. If those politicians are Democrats that's great. If not then I will weigh my other options.

Even if he was visibly and obviously not 100% all there, he won two elections. He got into office and was able to screw enormous amounts of stuff up. Imagine if people with the right mindset about winning elections actually got someone who was not going to screw stuff up into office? It would not suck, I promise!

A Reagan Democrat only perpetuates the same disastrous policies. I will not argue with you on this. We are all free to vote for whomever we want. You vote for who you want to, and I will vote for whom I want to.

liberal candidate, you will, given what the Republican party has become, vote for someone who makes Reagan look like LBJ.

The Republican Party is flirting with fascism. Even a Reagan Democrat is better than a fascist. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are not Reagan Democrats. Either of them are better than theocrats and white supremacists.

anti- climate change regulation, pro-torture, anti-choice, anti-lgbt, and will nominate SCOTUS choices as bad as Republicans--

Luckily the Supreme Court has nothing to do with the laws in the country. (/snark)

No one will fight Wall Street when not in office except by sleeping on the sidewalk and occasionally shouting at nicely-dressed people. Good luck and Happy holidays.
