Bernie's TERRIFIC response to Hillary's bathroom scandal.

If only all of his supporters could react as well as he does.

I don't know why so many here think it helps their cause to rudely disparage her. Bernie is far more effective than they are simply by being his smart and gracious self.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2015/12/22/sanders-mocks-trump-for-his-comments-about-clintons-mid-debate-trip-to-the-restroom/

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders ratcheted up his criticism Tuesday of Republican front-runner Donald Trump, calling him a “coward billionaire” and mocking him for talking about Hillary Clinton’s trip to the restroom during the last presidential debate.

“He has discovered that women go to the bathroom, and it’s been very upsetting to him,” the Vermont senator said of the real-estate mogul during a rally here that drew about 1,800 people. “This is a guy who wants to be president of the United States. He must have a very unusual relationship with women.”

Sanders was referring to Trump’s recounting Monday of Clinton’s late return to the Democratic debate stage following a commercial break on Saturday night.

SNIP

Now I’ve got to be honest with you. I’ve got to be honest with you,” Sanders said, speaking in a mocking tone. “I also went to the bathroom. I know, I have to admit it. … This is the pathology. This is the guy who is leading in the Republican polls.”

Otherwise I stay mostly with my unaffiliated status. We do not have Independents here in Kansas, or did not since I came back for Bernie. We caucus so I have to be a Democrat. Tell you why, are you even interested? The Democratic party here is as right as any party. They tell you that you do not really get to represent another besides who they have chosen. At the second rounds of the caucus, I was told that it was Kerry or I could go home. Screw the people who sent me to caucus for another. I have friends that have been clawing their way to the top of the party and working hard to make it actually be liberal. We had a guy running things who wanted the party to accept anti abortion policies and anti gay policies, that is what it was. I help them as an unaffiliated person, when they need me to vote Democratic I change to the Dems IF the Dem is an actual liberal, I will never vote for someone espousing RW points. I have never voted for Ron Paul nor do I think he or Rand have a decent bone in their bodies with the exception of their anti war stances and that is all I really care to know about them. I toyed around with Nader because I live in Kansas, my vote has never actually counted on a National level, I could vote for Santa Claus and it would count as much as a vote for a Democrat. I did not vote for Nader, not for the reasons I usually see here spoken by people who hate the man regardless of the excellent things he has done for this nation before he ran against Bush**.

As clueless as I am, according to you, I know that everything Bernie's promised you and your fellow Berners is just a lot of rainbow farts because he's got NO friends in Congress, and everything he's promising you and what you appear to believe will ever happen, needs the cooperation of Congress. Seriously, you think he carries that kind of clout? into being hidden but I can assure you what you have said here is absolute crap. You don't know but you sure seem to think you can pin things on people you do not know..Being unaffiliated is not being a Rand Paul supporter or a Nader supporter.

In Kansas many times there is no one running but a couple of republicans. If one is a horror and the other better it is easy to then move over and block the tea party people and I will do that if they are running unopposed or vote for the least likely to be able to beat a Democrat who is running. So take your "snake oil" and peddle it elsewhere. I had not wanted to block you but this is just disgusting as is the entire line of crap you are suggesting because you do not know anything about most of these people, your assumptions prove what people always say about assuming too much.

"OP's" is plural, yet the only OP you can cite with "scores" of recs is a deleted post.

Why don't you focus on your chosen candidate's policy positions instead of being poutraged over some perceived slight by anonymous posters on a discussion board?

Perhaps you can provide a rationale for her speech and vote in support of Bush's Iraq war.

Perhaps you can provide a good reason for her vote against banning cluster bombs.

Perhaps you can explain why more H1B Visas would be good for American workers.

Perhaps you can explain why she pushed for fracking while SOS.

realized it was both untrue and unfair to Hillary.

The O'Malley staffer was trying to spin the staffer's act of courtesy -- allowing the MOM staffer to use the bathroom before Hillary got there -- into an act of elitism. As if Hillary was too special to share the bathroom with her.

Hillary wasn't even there when the staffer asked to use the bathroom. And the staffer and Hillary must have passed each other as Hillary was going in.

The route from the stage to the bathroom had been timed at 1.75 minutes -- leaving Hillary only a minute and a half to use the bathroom before her return trip of 1.75 minutes. If she HAD stayed outside, waiting for the staffer to leave, she never would have gotten back to the stage as quickly as she did -- just seconds late. She OBVIOUSLY entered the bathroom as soon as she got there. She didn't dawdle outside or she would have had even less time than the minute and a half she was allowed.

Which is far less than most women need!

P.S. No one else seems to have noticed that the MOM staffer was hardly a neutral witness in this situation. She had a vested interest in making the opposition look bad.

There are always excesses on all sides.

However, there is also legitimate, and spirited criticism of candidates, policies and institutional biases.

But too often legitimate disagreement and criticism of Clinton ,Obama or or anything that doesn't fit into a narrow template of "team spirit" is called "hate" and as "anti-Obama" and "Hillary hate" and all kind of other stuff.

Blanket statements like that are not helpful. They also create a feedback loop in which nastines begets nastiness.

Yep that sounds about right. I don't want to be there when T-Rump learns what tampons are used for other than to stop bad nosebleeds.

Maybe this will help bring some attention to a more serious issue. In Minnesota women went to the legislators over bathroom disparity. We got some extra stalls out of the deal. But, I would like to see the time issue addressed as well. Women need a bit longer time in the bathroom at work and often we are treated badly when we need that time. Anyone who has faced the issue knows what I am talking about, that 3 minutes being back late from lunch or a 15 just because well stuff happens.

There was no need for that idiot male moderator to highlight the issue. On live TV, professionals (vs. wet behind the ears coiffures like Muir) know how to stretch to cover for such things. The idiot cameraman also could have kept the camera pointed away until HRC made it to the podium. But noooooo. They just HAD to make sure millions of viewers knew she went potty and took longer than the men did.

Women naturally take longer--for many reasons. And shorter legs don't walk as fast as longer ones, either. The whole thing seems like a set up by male broadcasters to make fun of a woman's need to pee.

is that I read that they had actually timed it. Walking quickly, it took her 3.5 minutes round-trip in transit time alone. Out of a total of 5 minutes allotted.

It's amazing she got back as fast as she did.

And then yesterday -- did you see the OP with all the recs? People were criticizing Hillary because her staff member, who'd been posted at the door to keep the room safe for her, allowed an O'Malley assistant to go in first. The spin was that Hillary was too special to use the bathroom at the same time as the staffer -- while ignoring the consideration Hillary's staffer had shown the woman by letting her go first.

And I think the O'Malley staffer was just telling a story to make Hillary look bad. Hillary probably arrived there, with her Secret Service protection, just as this woman was leaving. Because Hillary still managed to get in and out of the restroom and back to the stage just a few SECONDS late.

They just felt like very long seconds, because no one knew where she was or why she was gone.

I had written an OP criticizing ABC news for its very poor handling of the situation.

I didn't say a word about Bernie or any of his supporters. My OP was only about Hillary and how badly ABC behaved.

So I was shocked and disappointed with how many Bernie supporters responded not with sympathy, as Bernie did, but with rude insults directed toward Hillary: claiming that she wouldn't be capable of handling a 3 a m call due to her bladder issues; that something must be wrong with her health if she needs to go during a two hour period; that she was an attention-seeker; that she thought she was too "special"; that the incident was "debate theater."

All of the Bernie supporters who responded that way, to my OP and others, should be ashamed of themselves.

But instead, people like you are defending them.

are way out of line and anyone who supports them are behaving very badly. The simple reality though is that we see nasty comments against Bernie and his supporters all the time. I realize that it is not possible to know for certain who does it the most or the worst since we are all biased even if we try not to be.

However, lately the shenanigans pulled by Debbie Wasserman-Shultz has really upset a lot of people and with a number of Hillary supporters defending this and even blaming Bernie personally for this affair and some even claiming he was personally and directly involved led many to suspect or perhaps just acting defensively - they think the Hillary campaign was involved in this fiasco.
The recent behavior by the DNC Chair really stunned a lot of people and left them fuming and bitter. Still those bathroom remarks and supporting them is way, way out of line and just downright stupid.

I agree. Whether Hillary arrives back on stage on time or not does not help the shrinking middle class.

Hillary has only shown up at...what has it been...three scheduled debates? She has been late coming back to the stage twice. Two out of three?

In 2008 she and Obama had something like 20 debates, or more. Was she ever late then? I can't recall. Probably not.

Has Carly Fiorina ever been late coming back on stage? I don't think so.

I'm suspecting she enjoys making a grandstand appearance. Keep them waiting. Then follow through with "Sorry". It'll make the headlines, and at the same time get away from talking about the real issues.

Here we are, along with Trump and the media, talking about Hillary's lateness, rather than talking about Medicare, minimum wage, etc.

not being deliberately sexist.

Older buildings often have poor facilities for women compared to men. Old building codes didn't require as many restrooms for women as for men. Did you know that? Did you know that time and motion studies in the 80's resulted in new building codes, when researchers with stop watches discovered that women needed twice as much time as men to do the same thing? We can't just whip it out and hang it over the urinal.

But it's even worse than that because, as I already mentioned, they don't always pair men's and ladies' rooms. In the case of ABC's building, the closest women's bathroom was significantly farther away from the stage then the men's. It was as simple as that.

The allotted time was only 5 minutes. Hillary's aide had already helped her time the trip with a stopwatch. Walking quickly, it took her 3.5 minutes out of the break time just walking back and forth. Which left her only a minute and a half to take care of business in the bathroom, including washing her hands.

And yet she was only seconds late.

And now people like you are criticizing her instead of ABC, for aiming the camera at the empty podium and making a point of starting without her.

Wow. I can't believe the people who think of themselves as progressives. Get a clue.

24 Debates in 2008 (as I stated). Did she practice with a stop watch in those debates. Who knows?

No lateness by Hillary in all those debates.

2015 - Twice late (CNN & ABC) so far. I believe that 2 out of 3. (as I stated).

Just wondering...did she practice with a stop watch in the CNN Debate?

Here we are discussing Hillary's lateness, again, instead of the shrinking middle class.

PS: Get a clue.

And I don't believe that's particularly vulgar.

Trump is also a schmuck, although I object when I hear that term bandied about by people who obviously don't know what it really means.

I don't think Bernie would ever use that term, but obviously I'm not as classy as Bernie..... ;->

as I don't really know, to be honest.

What he has said, that I have heard, and agree with, is that Muslim armies and countries should be the first line of defense against ISIL, and not the U.S.

It is not appropriate for America be the policeman of the world. It puts our country at unacceptable risk in many arenas.

What I will say, is that without knowing more regarding this or any other issue, I would tend to give him the benefit of the doubt, until I research the issue personally, and come to my own conclusion.

How's that?

supporters yesterday discussing this-and they pointed out the obvious:
Womens bathrooms are conveniently located Several Hundred Feet Further "down the hall" than mens at most All venues. It's gonna take extra time walking to and fro. It's gonna take extra time to just prep to be seated on the throne-Men usually Don't have to disrobe to pee and then reassemble to be presentable once again. It just "is"

This GOP's "BathroomGateRant" is the Biggest Farce Yet! Yet it's also oddly comforting-If this was the Only thing they could find to complain about post Dem debate-then that is a mark of Success. Granted I no longer watch the fictionally based sitcom aka "corponews"...But I haven't really heard/read anything of substance re: policies complained about Or discussed from the sociopathic/anti-social crowd (gop).

However, if he's not the general election D nominee, I'll still vote blue. Can't sit home and let Cruz/Rubio or shudder Trump take the presidency, don't think we'd survive that well.
