New Hampshire elects an openly gay state senator

Openly gay New Hampshire State Rep. David Pierce was victorious tonight in his Democratic primary for the state senate, and he faces no opponent this November.

Pierce is the first openly LGBT candidate to be elected to the state senate as a freshman. Two other gay state senators came out while in office, but none are currently serving.
