I've seen that "fake concern barely masking a smarmy smirk" too many times in the corporate world: "We here at Vampire Corporation are really, very sorry to announce that we're eliminating 5000000 jobs today. But, on the upside, our stock price is up snc our Executives will be getting millions of dollars in bonuses next mOnth. Really sorry about the rest of you." Cough, smirk.
