Talk about projection!!!
Mitt Romney says in an interview that his campaign will come into focus with the debates and that hes preparing for President Barack Obama to say things that arent true during the three upcoming faceoffs next month.
This is a campaign which I think will come into focus as the debates occur, Romney said, according to a transcript released by ABC of Romneys sitdown with Good Morning Americas George Stephanopoulos. The president got a bit of a bump after his convention. I got a bit of a bump after ours. Its going to go back and forth.
The debates, including the vice presidential debate, he said, could well be a decisive point in the campaign, and he added that while he wouldnt try to predict the outcome, he thought they would be revealing one way or another.
Romney also suggested that Obama might be untruthful during the debates.
But I think the challenge that Ill have in the debate is that the president tends to, how shall I say it, to say things that arent true, Romney said, adding, Ive looked at prior debates. And in that kind of case, its difficult to say, Well, am I going to spend my time correcting things that arent quite accurate? Or am I going to spend my time talking about the things I want to talk about?

(12,325 posts)Oh, and he's projecting.
You think the media will rip Romney for saying this?
I'll believe it when I see it.
They have yet to acknowledge that he is a pathological liar.

(36,437 posts)Here's a clue, Mitt: you can't program or plan witty remarks. It is contrary to the nature of wit, which is in essence spontaneous and keyed to a moment. You can't plan it out in advance and execute it.
Another reason Romney fails miserably.

(63,912 posts)stride before a big game. Obama surely recognizes it as such, since he knows sports better than Romney ever could, particularly basketball where lots of trash talk goes on. I can just see Obama chuckling right now.
Don't worry about this. Obama knows how to handle this sort of thing. In fact, Romney couldn't trash talk his way out of a paper bag...

(1,828 posts)Mitt plans to lie, so he's excusing his own lies with the "everybody does it" defense.
Won't work. I hope Obama calls Mitt on every single lie he utters at the debates. And every single lie he's uttered throughout the campaign.
Oh wait. If he does that, there will be no time for any debate.
Normal election time tub thumping.
Romney may, actually, be fatuous enough to believe it.

(2,940 posts)I'm envisioning a big red 'X' appearing on the screen accompanied by a loud buzzer every time one of the candidates lies. He would then be required to read a statement from the fact checkers that explains the truth.
It's obviously never going to be a possibility, but it's fun to imagine.
