the people having been fooled and becoming victims of the non-stop propaganda and
vicious lies of the Right Wing-owned news media. The result, however, is pretty much
the same.

We really badly need news media that print and broadcast the truth on a broad
nationwide scale - for a change. Without this our nation will keep losing, and the
psychopaths will keep winning. I've just written a post on that topic. (See link below):

Yes, I've also been waiting for someone like Sanders for what seems like centuries.
And now he is finally here.

What caused the fall of the Wall was pure economic survival: Hungary had opened her border with Austria on May 2, 1989. By the time the East German government figured out what was happening, everyone who had a skill they could market in West Germany had already defected. The only way East Germany could possibly survive was to send Erich Honecker into forced retirement and reunify with West Germany.

Regardless of Reagan's role in the Romanian Revolution - proof of which I've never seen - you have to admit Ceaucescu was enough of a disaster he very well could have - and probably DID - bring that shit on all by himself.

If you look at it in the correct light, the hands of Saudi Arabia are all over Russian self-harm through that conflict.
and, that invasion started in the Carter years...which would make Cater a cold war genius

The Russian economy didn't have the horsepower to do Cold War episode 'Weaponize In Space' and carry out a decade long generation killing quagmire. With so many straws landing on the camels back, it's sort of hard to say which one is -the- one that's responsible for breaking its back.

We see things in close proximity of outcomes as causes. That's not always the way things work.

Any country that wishes to survive in this world needs to trade with the world. Because the Soviet ruble didn't trade on international currency markets, any foreign trade with the USSR had to be done through barter. Easy example: the Pepsi-Cola Company was trading Stolichnaya vodka for soft drinks, and IIRC the band Bon Jovi took a 20-foot container full of firewood in exchange for the Soviet publishing rights to "New Jersey."

OTOH, China floated the yuan renminbi. If you want to buy from China, you can pay them in money.
