2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOh boy! Juanita Broaddrick is back! Says the rape "never goes away"
She says Hillary tried to silence her.
Broaddrick allegation that Bill Clinton raped her emerged at the time of congressional impeachment proceedings over his extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky.
Broaddrick has also said that Hillary Clinton approached her some time after the alleged assault and attempted to thank her for her support in what Broaddrick took as appreciation for her silence about the attack.
Through his lawyers, Clinton has repeatedly denied the allegations.
Broaddricks tweet comes a month before the Iowa caucus, and days after Bill has gone on the 2016 trail to stump for his wifes presidential campaign. Hillary Clinton was loudly heckled at a Sunday campaign event about

Many liberal feminists including Maureen Dowd and Gloria Alred supported women like Jones and Broaddrick and will again.
Maybe people who are concerned about Bernie's socialism should switch to O'Malley because it is obvious the Clinton impeachment machine is coming back. Paula Jones made a recent appearance on CNN.

(1,967 posts)so unfortunately you can't censor it.
I would add, the centrist dems, like TPM were not supportive of Clintons during the scandals, so the beat down you give us liberals is unfair.
The truth is the Clintons have demonized the only people who stood by them, and they lost friends.
You hate moveon, but moveon were formed specifically to defend the Clintons. They are called moveon because they wanted to moveon from impeachment to deal with issues the public cares about. The Clintons made enemies of moveon by consistently siding with their haters. Joe Lieberman voted to impeach Bill. The Observer were Clinton defenders too.

(1,967 posts)it is just reporting on the fact that his accusers are back. You can believe them or not believe them. Should we have censored the existence of the Benghazi hearings?

(3,343 posts)I tried posting this yesterday but the censors got their way - even though there was basically a rational and reasonable discussion about the potential implications being had.
But you know - some people feel threatened if anything from outside their echo chamber slip through.
I still think it's worth discussing - the political implications, what Trump might try and do, how Hillary might respond, will Bill have to limit his campaign exposure, etc. - but be prepared to be attacked.

This site is to help get dems elected not to try smearing Hillary by smearing her husband.

(1,967 posts)You aren't helping Clinton or her people by censoring the news. Clinton people need to know what they are in for. Just because it is democratic site, doesn't mean we shouldn't report on what the other side is doing. Why do we always post the latest statement by Trump?

(30,481 posts)Right wing extremists are the only ones who haven't figured out how much these attacks help Hillary. Her popularity will go through the roof while theirs sinks even further. Huge win in political capital to push our agenda through. Bring it on nutty ass right wingers.

(1,967 posts)Why not avoid it altogether with candidates that don't have baggage? Why not just nominate someone who can focus on something besides scandal hearings?

(1,967 posts)They aren't censoring it. Though it is a reminder that during the impeachment hearing, the DLC/New Democrats supported impeachment. Yeah, the Clinton's own wing of the party supported impeachment while liberals like Moveon, Observer writers like Conason and Tomasky rallied around them. Joe Lieberman was awful. Then the Clintons backed Joe Lieberman all the way in the march to the Iraq War. Moveon realized they supported people who weren't going to return the favor, and all is history. That is why they support Bernie now.

(10,200 posts)multiple conflicting statements I don't think Bernie's partisans will have much success smearing Bill 20 years later with these old discredited allegations. Maybe they would do better with the Vince Foster rumors.Starr investigated that as well.

(10,200 posts)those years, and she just let Dick Cheney take the rap for being the puppet master? She is also responsible for every action by Barack Obama that lefties don't like as well. She probably was involved in the Tea Pot Dome scandal to boot.

(1,967 posts)and they feel they get traction. That does affect her electabilty. Not my fault. Many of the mostly liberal wing of the party that supported her can't be counted on to support the Clintons this time because of the bridges they burnt, during the Iraq era and since then with their neocon foreign policy and prowallstreet views. The centrists wing went along with the republicans on impeachment. That is just a fact.
She is inheriting Obama's campaign team and most were too young at the time to remember this stuff.

(5,066 posts)I am sure paula Jones was part of right wing attack job.
I am unsure of truth of Juanita broaddrick's rape story but it should be addressed.it was kind of dismissed after impeachment.
broaddrick claimed hillary Clinton worked on trying to silence her.that is valid issue.
I am not going to go back to defending him as i once did.
and rape is very serious issue.if they have someone that can disprove her claims go ahead and present it.
if you want to move past clinton issues vote for bernie or even O'Malley.

(10,200 posts)fiasco. There was nothing but wall to wall coverage of this shit by Ken Starr. It's sad to see Bernie's partisans resurrecting the discredited smears of the right from the 90s. Bill Clinton's sex life was the main topic of cable news for about four years, but I suppose you were hiding under a rock during that era.

she said she was raped and spoke out again.rape is serious charge.and shouldn't be sweep under rug.
I am not going to defend bill clinton anymore.i did that too much in 1990's and he screwed over all the dems who supported him for his wall street cronies.
i find it rich clinton and her supporters attacking us when you tried to smear bernie and his supporters as sexiest,anti-women,and racist and she talked like a republican to attack bernie's ehalth care plan and attack him like republican on taxes.

(80,708 posts)I agree it's crap, but ... that doesnt mean it isnt going to come up.
(i mean, fuck, the stuff that was said here about Bernie sanders over some essay he wrote in an alterna-weekly in 1973... "Well, he should know it's going to be a legitimate issue, herp derp"
It shouldnt have any bearing on HRC or her campaign, but she's a super intelligent person so she should think far enough ahead to realize that when she puts out a sound bite that "women should be believed", given the history of the anti-BC smear jobs in the 90s it will be turned and used against her. i mean, come on.
ronnykmarshall
(35,356 posts)But what kills me is that on DU, we have Bernie supporters spewing this shit. I don't give a flying rats ass about Bernie's essay nor do I give a fuck about Hillary being a Goldwater girl in 1964. BUT, there has been this festering stank from DU members spewing this right wing shit from the 90's over and over.

(80,708 posts)The only thing I would say- and I hestiate to mention it, but it seems patently obvious- is that given the history with this sort of shit, HRC would probably be better off finding different ways of raising the issue of sexual assault than through sound bites like "women should be believed".
There are other ways to say the same thing that dont leave such an obvious door open for this crap. She should be thinking one or two moves ahead, if she is really the skilled politician her supporters claim.

(12,482 posts)they lost two house speakers in about as many days and Clinton's popularity rose as quickly as the GOP's plummetted. They actually lost congressional seats during the mid term of the opposing party's second term, almost unheard of - that level of fail.
