Vice Presidential candidate. From a boarder state and a very close relationship with the ACLU/George Meany and Labor in general. Unfortunately, Senator Eagleton did not disclose his controversial mental health history until it was too late.

I really can't see how this would have much to do with a Sanders/Warren ticket. I like the idea, but don't think it will happen.

I'm more worried about Bernie Sanders becoming the 2016 version of George McGovern, a candidate I supported in 1972, knowing that he would not win. Here's what happened in that election:

McGovern got a grand total of 17 electoral votes, running against a disgusting incumbent who was arguably the worst President in US history. It was not a good year. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

2016 is going to be a weird election, and may have very strange results, depending on who the nominees are for our two political parties. I'm uneasy about this election. Very uneasy.

You have actually said you think hill will beat him in the Vermont primary. You are totally clueless about how Vermonters feel about Sanders- And Hillary. Vermonters love Bernie. Hillary is not at all popular here beyond dem bigwigs. Really not popular.

The way polls show Bernie trouncing Trump and every other Republican candidate?

Still, the late Senator McGovern was a great man and America made a huge mistake in not seizing that opportunity. One year later the whole country knew that. Let's hope they not do that again.

have occurred are worthless as predictors of GE results. I am paying zero attention to them. I will begin watching those polls once nominees are known for both parties and the actual campaigns have begun. Until then, they have no validity.

As for 1972, I do not remember what the GE polls were predicting at this point in the election year. I wasn't watching them then, either, this early in the cycle.

that polls long in advance showed Nixon winning. I doubt there was one single poll that ever showed McGovern winning the general election. It is just not comparable and as somebody from below pointed out - demographics have dramatically changed since 72/84 and thus it is unlikely that there would be such lopsided landslides again and for the foreseeable future. And remember in 1984 Mondale also lost every state except one which he only barely won by less than one percent. He was the establishment center's candidate.

Besides George McGovern was a great man and his name should be revered by all Democrats everywhere - not disparaged.

So you were there? So was I and I had as much to do with McGovern getting the nomination as I did with McCarthy. We were all neat and clean for Gene, as you may recall, and that didn't work out too well either. There is a real tendency among us old folks to compare these here oranges with them there apples. 40+ years ago this was a whole different world and a whole different nation.

I met the man who made the famous Johnson/Goldwater countdown ad. That only ran once and was totally devastating to Goldwater. Things happen.

Right now there are large throngs of people supporting Sanders. Jeb! and his guys have spent multiple millions to push his candidacy forward and last year it was a given that this race would be between Clinton and Bush. Many people like me were wishing Senator Warren would run but she has opted out. Others wished VP Biden would run, but he has opted out. So now a balding Jew from Brooklyn is running and Clinton's coronation might be in doubt. Things happen.

The idea that Sanders is comparable with McGovern is, IHMO, laughable. Again, IMHO, McGovern really could be described as that magical unicorn who was going to make everything nice, unlike that nasty guy he was running against. There is nothing fantastical about what Sanders is saying and, again, it is a different world and a different country.

Things happen.
