I'm new here. But, I've been reading all of the posts

that say that every little gaff is the end of Romney. But I didn't think that all of them really meant that it was the end of his campaign.

Today, I believe and agree that this video is going to be a turning point.

Yes, the Pubs will try to spin his words, but I cannot believe that intelligent people (and infortunately there are too many that aren't) will see this as anything other than his simple desire to be President, because as an uber-rich, heartless person, he can't think of another goal to reach. He has it all financially. He has the backing of the rest of the uber-rich, for their own enrichment.

I can't help but think to myself..."How much money does a person need?" I don't think it is about money as much as it is an desire for control. Which probably constitutes something of a personality disorder. Anti-socials, egomaniacs, sociopaths.

What drives a person to disregard those less fortunate in order to keep them "in their place" while they bath in the riches that they have either inherented or have stolen from those less fortunate.

They are not opportunists. They are thieves. No thief needs to understand numbers or statistics. They just know how to con others out of what they have.

Like you, I often think, "Don't they have enough? How much do they need?" It's greed for the sake of being greedy. There's no purpose for it. They don't want to help people or make the world a better place. In fact, they seem to get some kind of perverse pleasure in doing the exact opposite. They are just ... empty.

This reminds me of being in High School. When the girls in my class would diss those like myself, making fun of me because I was from a poor family and they weren't...and my clothes weren't as cool as theirs. I wasn't invited to all the parties they were invited to because of that. I lived in near poverty, but never thought so, because I didn't know I was. It only became apparent to me at that time that there were people that held those with such contempt. I was never aware of it until that time.

Superficial nonsense that means nothing. I would really like to know where those girls are now and what they are doing. Especially since I am one of those folks that Romney thinks so little of, but have managed to be successful and managed to put two kids through college who are already on the road to having a better life than I did. AND I pay LOTS of taxes. Of which I have never complained about.

Tue Sep 18, 2012, 12:39 AM

A gaffe is something embarassing but trivial. Obama saying he's been to all 57 states was a gaffe. Bush's "is our children learning?" was a gaffe. Poppy's upping some chuck into the Japanese PM's lap was a gaffe. Clinton saying "I never inhaled" was a gaffe.

Romney has stated his intent to abdicate presidental responsibility to half the nation. On top of his statements that he will throw us into a third middle eastern war. On top of his tax evasion and vulture capitalism.

These aren't gaffes, these are fucking bombs. And the Romney campaign is the one dropping them on the Romney campaign.

that gaffs are that simple. Gaffs are sometimes words that come from one's true convictions. I would say that gaffs can be good or bad, but gaffs are inherently bad. Though sometimes, like some typos I read here are gaffs (or typos) make a better point than the original intent. Some are hilariously accurate, despite themselves.

I enjoyed reading your short bio upthread. It brought back memories of growing up middle class, but living (in a leased house) in a tony oil-money neighborhood in Houston. I went to an upscale public school with a lot of rich kids. My clothes were never good enough. I couldn't go to the fancy nouveau-riche parties, etc.

I made a pretty good life for myself, nevertheless, and I sometimes wonder what happened to all the snotty kids I went to school with back then; what happened to them after the oil bust of the mid-80's.

Anyway, thanks for your post...

I was born in San Antonio (Brooke Army Medical Center), and moved around a lot as a kid. My dad's last duty station was Fort Lewis, WA. After he retired, we moved to Houston, where he worked for a major corporation, but without the major corporate salary.

Hated it. (And Houston - nothing like San Antonio...)

We moved back to the Northwest, and now I call the Greater Seattle area my home.

I thought that Romney's rendition of Mr. Bean takes a holiday should have tanked his career. But, he has a lot of people that support him, just because he is a Republican and he is takin on the libruls. This really should do it though. I think there are some people that can put two and two together still and realize that they will need SS and that their children will need or are getting student loans. Or that maybe it's a good thing that their son/daughter with asthma can now get health insurance easier. Anyway, I will be checking on the polls in a few days to see if this latest, I hate the poor screed, has taken effect.

that have been written, mainly since the RNC's CONvention, but one never likes to count chickens and all that...

That said, the last week or so has been quite full of really glaring errors, revelatory errors that rip the cover off that man behind the curtain. And by now it's not just one isolated incident. It's a Bizarro World string of pearls. More gaffes and blunders and pearl-clutching seemingly by the DAY. And it starts to combine into a fuller picture, all of it - um - shall we say unimpressive.

And the secretly recorded video - in which he's talking behind closed doors where the press isn't supposed to go and everybody's been well-vetted and no "undesirables" are allowed. He's talking to his own, the only people he really cares about, and showing his real self. I don't know if he can recover from this one. This may be just one callous blunder too many.

Huge money gets made in Republican fundraising. Plenty of cash gets pilfered, redirected and outright stolen from gullible people. Hey, they're Republicans aren't they? "A fool and his money are soon parted".

Romney was simply the put up job. The pitcher you send to the mound in the ninth inning when you're down eight or more runs. Bob Dole was kinda like this in 1996. They have to run SOMEBODY.

I hate that I live in a society that lives in such a world. Worse, that our citizens have become so polarized, so brainwashed, so ignorant...that they don't recognize that they have given up their ability to think for themselves because it is easier than drawing their own conclusions.

Will that trend ever stop or are we doomed to face and fight that during every exection cycle?

I think, for now, until the Rhinosaurs make it into the 21st century, we still have a small edge, a small, viral, edge.

Check out information about the Gilded Age and Robber barons. Mark Twain does a really good job in his novel looking at the Republican fantasy of "the good old days." You might want to check out the progressives, Theodore Roosevelt, and bull moose. For the most part, leave the internet alone on this. I think, both in what he is against, and what Obama is trying to do, will be found in those general pictures of US history normally forgotten in the classroom.
