Obama Gets Lucky
Dana Millbank says President Obama just might be the luckiest man alive.
"At the last possible moment to save his reelection, the economy is beginning to hum, as evidenced by Friday's jobs report. And Obama's Republican opponents are shaping up to be as formidable as, well, marshmallows. While Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are making each other unelectable, the president is singing Al Green, congratulating Super Bowl winners, playing with science projects, raising obscene amounts of campaign cash and watching his poll numbers soar."

(52,317 posts)generally, the opposition party doesn't put up a clown car of incompetents when the incumbent appears vulnerable. the smart opposition candidates hold out for the open election 4 years later.
obama's a brilliant campaigner who succeeded in passing major legislation despite an obstinant opposition, has had zero scandals, no foreign policy debacles, nailed bin laden, and has kept his house in order enough so that there is no major social unrest, no challenger for his renomination, and no real third party candidate.
the only "luck" is that the economy appears to be finally, slowly getting better, though that is partly to his credit (stimulus? tax cut? unemployment benefits?) and partly BAD luck that it's been as terrible as its been for as long as this -- we're STILL paying for the previous administration's major mistakes. how many presidencies does THAT happen to?

(16,355 posts)I'm sick of people acting like Obama is a strong incumbent President. He was going to be a tough beat no matter what, now it looks like he's as close to a lock as you'll see at this point in the race.

(157 posts)when he could very easily have fallen by the wayside as a child. Instead, he has become a once a generation transformational leader who people trust.
I think a lot of independents and conservatives feel Obama is trustworthy and moderate even if they don't talk like that in public.

(18,541 posts)Kudos to Newt, Mitt, Ricky and Ron on the success of the Obama Administration.
Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts). . and said that it was just "an echo chamber" at MSNBC.
Guess he never heard of Scarbrow or Ratman, the ex-CNBC fake economist hack that is so conservative that he doesn't wear socks with his $500 Gucci slipons.
So now that KO is gone, Dana is a favorite of Catholic apologist Chris Matthews, the conservoturd who used to root for the Iraq War when Bush was in office.
And who made such an ass out of himself the night that President Obama was elected when he said on his program that it had suddenly hit him, "we had elected a Black man to be the President of the United States".
A comment that was edited out of the rerun of that program because it revealed that little Catholic altar boy Chrissy never really thought President Obama would be elected!!

(276 posts)Before social media a candidate would deliver a speech in the morning with a speech to cater to their wishes and that evening he would deliver a 180 degree speech to cater to a different crowd. Now with video cell phones and You Tube it is easy to catch them misleading and just making stuff up. Now what you say to a crowd is taped for infamy on the internet and people can email it and comment on it.
Just look at Komen's snafu, Bank of America's snafu over charging a fee to use our money, and now Apple is being called to the carpet over their labor practices overseas.

(17,505 posts)Feb, before the GOP primaries are even 1/2 over is the "last possible moment"?
And what is it "saving" his reelection from? A gaggle of incompetents catering to bigots and the ignorant?
I think the only real threat to Obama's reelection is election tampering and cheating. And that can still happen.... though after Bush's fake wins, not as effectively.

(25,111 posts)dumbfounded about Apple tho. This is what Americans are fighting against again, the work place and rights of workers, women rights, voter rights, civil rights, and health coverage are being challenged in two-fold by goppers, and it seems that some Dems are now going along with this travesty.
Thats why I find it very important to re-elect Pres O. Yes, he's lucky right now, because when you got unlimited monies, corporate media, the Supreme Court, and crazed religious right all coming down on him, I'm pretty sure he and his re-election committee are quite pleased of the outcome now. Between Santorum and Newt, Mittens looks like a boy scout. Who ever is prepping Mit needs to be fired, like they fired Buchmann's debate coach. But maybe Mittens is unteachable. He's a spoiled rich kid and can't relate to us folks down here.

Dont think this will be a cake walk for Obama ....
