Related: About this forumSo Bernie Sanders thinks cheeseburgers are more dangerous than guns
On October 20, 2005, Sanders voted against the Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act, also known as the "cheeseburger bill," aimed at protecting McDonald's and other fast-food restaurant chains from lawsuits filed by plaintiffs who blamed the companies for causing obesity. The next day, he voted in favor of protecting gun manufacturers and sellers from lawsuits.

(2,493 posts)That I find the misleading (one could almost say lies) attacks on the candidates from Democrats to be fairly reprehensible. This falls into that category. Do you think people on DU are idiots?

Guns are straightforward tools that everyone knows its dangers (except some idiots). If you use a gun in a crime, then the person who does the crime deserves to be jailed, but not who made or sold the gun legally. Sanders supports laws to restrict acces to guns by criminals or unstable people, to help fight this issue.
An understated problem is that corporations (including fast-foods) do not properly identify the compositions of their food, hurting the consumers. A lot of consumers don't know that the salad they're eating has 600 calories, and start having health issues because of continued misconceptions. Which is why in the last couple decades there has been a big movement in informing the users of what they're putting through their body (such as forcing corporations to put nutrients labels in their products).
However, unlike guns, a lot of people still have many misconceptions about foods.
