Romney Completely Implodes and Claims Americans Like to Pay Taxes

Romney Completely Implodes and Claims Americans Like to Pay Taxes

Mitt Romney went on Fox News and managed to make his situation worse by refusing to release his tax returns, yet claiming that Americans would like to pay taxes.

-snip-

Neil Cavuto pushed the Fox News lie that 47% of Americans don’t pay taxes, and asked Romney if the percentage should be higher. Mitt responded by telling America that he thinks they would enjoy paying taxes.

Romney said, “Well, first of all of course you’re right. There are a number of retirees, members of the military and so forth who aren’t paying taxes, and that’s as it should be, but I do believe we should have enough jobs and enough take-home pay such as people have the privilege of higher incomes that allow allow them to be to pay taxes. I think people would like to be paying taxes.

Mitt Romney is the nominee of a party that has refused to raise one penny of taxes, and yet he goes on Fox News and claims that the American people would like to pay taxes. Romney apparently lives in some sort of abstract unreality, because the truth is that no matter no matter how much people earn, they aren’t going to like to pay taxes.

I guess if you are Mitt Romney and can hide most of your taxable income offshore, paying taxes is no big deal. Mitt Romney, who won’t release his tax returns, is probably the last person in the world who should be talking about how much Americans like to pay taxes. Until Romney releases his tax returns, he has zero credibility on the issue. We don’t even know how much Romney paid in taxes, yet he is telling everyone else that they should enjoy it.

but he's not. he says things like "null set" and "inelegant" and talks in circles. I would probably poke myself in the eye with a pencil, repeatedly, if I had to sit through a board meeting with that guy talking.

In 2009 14,000 wealthy Americans took advantage of the tax amnesty program to pay 5 billion in back taxes that were hidden by a USB tax evasion scheme. I wonder whose tax returns might reflect that little oops moment?

If paying taxes gives us the "warm fuzzies" so much, how come he doesn't pay more in taxes??? Pray tell.

Release your taxes, Mitt, so we can see how thrilled you are to pay your share. I'll just bet you're excited
when you pay yours.

Did he just say that "higher incomes" should be paying more taxes?

Congratulations Mitt, you just agreed with Obama.

He is saying that people would like to make more money. He just picked a stupid way of saying it. The man is an idiot who can't speak off the cuff without giving fodder for sound bites, but what he said made sense to me.

Romney, of course, doesn't like paying taxes. Taxes are for the little people to like paying. When you're a Galtian superman like Mitt, taxes are for your accountants to avoid with earned-income loopholes for Galtian supermen, low capital gains rates, and offshore accounts to hide your money in.

Poor Mitt...he really is bungling the Republican Story. "Gauche" comes to mind.
