I Promised Myself I Would Never Do This, But... Mid-Atlantic Occupy Supporters Wanted

I don't usually like to give out details about projects IRL,
given that this is a political blog and all, so it's like posting an e-mail address, but...

There's a community project in the Mid-Atlantic that could benefit from Occupy supporters here on DU.

If you're a Mid-Atlantic Occupy Supporter, PM me for details and I can put you in touch with the folks
that are looking for help.

Perhaps those folks could even do a meetup in support of efforts like this one that
Occupy DUers are involved in. (or just as an excuse for Occu-DUers to meet up??)

Again, for more info just PM me if you're from that area.

I'm still interested in the hosting guidelines for Occupy DU that EllisonZ asked me to work on, BTW. I have the
drafts bookmarked. It's just that stuff like this has taken precedence and the inability to find people IRL has kind
of sapped my enthusiasm for interacting with online friends and occu~ supporters as it's hard to put out appeals
for local assistance. The overall struggles Occupy has had with declining participation this spring couldn't have
come at a worse time for projects like the one in question.

So, yeah... if you're in the area (or have another local Occupy project you want folks to know about) please PM
or post here.

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Occupy at will to old ladies on the Internet. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design gala dresses are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.

It was worth a shot. I'll probably delete the call-out for help if there's no interest.

I'd be hoping there was some folks from the mid atlantic here, though

because folks who aren't in the area might be interested but can't help

(as much)

I've gone to some great lengths to keep my personal life divorced from DU in every way. I don't even acknowledge here to people I've worked with IRL on activism stuff that I know them IRL. I think that makes sense; I've kept my DU life segregated from RL. I have friends here who are RL friends that don't know that DU me is me...but I might be interested depending on what was needed of me and what the project was if I could do it without breaching my DU anonymity and it was local to me. I'm probably not up for an Occu-DU meetup though.

I guess shoot me a PM with some general idea of the project.

Especially considering that everything posted on DU gets archived on the web like the Congressional Record. That's one reason anonymity is important for political speech online -- in a real life "town square" or "town hall" forum, there is no expectation (or shouldn't be) of "persistent" record-keeping of every statement one has ever uttered.

Well the nice thing about DU3 is I can delete the OP if messages like this one get too few replies to warrant the research opportunity for anti-DU antidisestablishmentarians and RW trolls. More info to follow, hopefully...

But, to still connect in some way is still important. The HOW is beyond me with the tracking...

Interesting Interviews. Could be just "Conspiracy Theory".....but, who knows?

Just checking out the Occupy closet/dungeon. You are all clas and just wanted to say 'hello'.

My general assesment is things will need to get much worse. Critical mass is not reached.
Good news is, we'll get it! This downward spiral isn't going to stop. The second wave of occupiers is coming. Much more yet to be screwed.

so a bit far for me. But don't despair, there are always breaks in the action when a movement has been as intense as this one was for so long. People are regrouping, but by no means gone.

Thank you for all you do. I am very excited about all that is going on and how much this 'little' movement, which it was, grew so fast and caught the imagination of so many people, lasted way longer than anyone anticipated and is still going strong.

I will try to post more OPs about all that is happening in different places. It's not that things are not going on, I guess DU has changed, so I don't think of it as a place for OWS anymore.

I don't think it's that the same number of occupy supporters aren't on DU... I think it's that Occupy has taken a bit of a nosedive recently, and there is less that people want to talk about as a result.

I thank a lot of people who used to be here are not posting much anymore, for various reasons. As Occupy, they are like all movements, moving to another phase. Right now they are busy in court, and for the most part, have been winning, a testament to the organization that took place in anticipation of false arrests and police willing to lie under oath. With the dismissals of cases in NY eg, they are now following up with lawsuits against the NYPD and Bloomberg joined by members of the Press and NYC city council members.

I see this as a very important phase of the movement. For far too long the NYPD has gotten away with all the corruption finally coming to the surface, bigotry, false arrests etc. but OWS brought it out into the open and got them some really bad PR all over the world.

They are also doing more than Congress ever did to keep people in their homes eg, stopping foreclosures wherever they can.

I will try to get more OPs written for this forum though, as there really is a lot going on and I just assume people know about it.
