Occupy London activists stage St Paul's protest

At around 10.30pm last night, having been threatened with arrest by the City of London Police, the four female activists who chained themselves to the pulpit of St Paul’s Cathedral, cut their chains and declared their action a success. Their aim was to put pressure on the leadership of St Paul’s Cathedral to stop sitting on the fence and join the fight against rising inequality in the UK and beyond.

LONDON — Four demonstrators from the anti-capitalist Occupy movement on Sunday chained themselves to the pulpit in London's St Paul's cathedral, a year on from the group's protest camp outside the famous church.

The activists cut themselves free around five hours later when City of London Police entered the cathedral and gave them an arrest warning, said an Occupy spokesman.

David Ison, Dean of St Paul's, said "four young women dressed in white" made their move to occupy the pulpit during his evening prayer.

Cathedral staff told police they were happy to allow the protest as officers outside the building monitored a separate demonstration by Occupy activists.

I think this is related to the one year anniversary of the encampment in the London financial district. (on bbc news)
