Flier calls for violence against Occupy Oakland protesters

OAKLAND -- A flier disseminated downtown is urging people to bring bats to next Thursday's Occupy Oakland anniversary protest, not to smash bank windows, but to "beat the (expletive)" out of anarchists and vandals.

The flier asks residents to "stand up and defend the great city of Oakland" and specifically calls for violence against "black-clad" Caucasians that "use our city landscape as a canvas for their divisive and violent message."

No one has taken responsibility for one-page post, which leaves no contact information. It claims to be from a group calling itself DOOM -- Defend Our Oakland Movement.

The flier comes amid deepening fractures within the Occupy movement over recent bouts of window smashing and graffiti tagging by politically motivated vandals. Occupy supporters didn't rule out that the flier might have been drafted by one of their own fed up with the ongoing vandalism.

Is there really that big a schism over occupy tactics? I don't associate window smashing with OWS - are there other groups taking advantage of OWS?

I don't think Occupy has a "divisive and violent message" - that is just what the flier says.

The question is who wrote the flier.

Will the police ignore it, as they usually do with regards to violence against protestors?

Or will they be on it like flies on shit, and ready with those "Assaulting an officer" charges?

lol. Now that they have gotten attention for their violence to the protesters, now perhaps they are trying to rouse the rabid right to beat down the protesters for them. Just kidding but these days, nothing would surprise me.

I've never seen them arrest any of the mysterious, black-clad vandals at any of the protests OR identify them. But they arrest journalists, veterans, students etc for simply being there.

I think my #1 suspect is the Oakland PD at this point. And this is why the UN Rappateur on Human Rights asked the US Government to step in to protect the rights of the peaceful OWS protesters from the police.

Regardless of where it came from, OWS definitely cannot depend on the police for protect there is no question about that.
