Judit Polgár

Judit Polgár (born 23 July 1976) is a Hungarian chess grandmaster. She is by far the strongest female chess player in history. In 1991, Polgár achieved the title of Grandmaster at the age of 15 years and 4 months, the youngest person to do so until then.

Judit Polgár is currently (May 2013) ranked 52nd in the world FIDE ratings list with an Elo rating of 2696, the only woman on FIDE's Top 100 Players list, and has been ranked as high as eighth (in 2005). She has won or shared first in the chess tournaments of Hastings 1993, Madrid 1994, León 1996, U.S. Open 1998, Hoogeveen 1999, Siegman 1999, Japfa 2000, and the Najdorf Memorial 2000.

Polgár is the only woman to have won a game from a current world number one player, and has defeated nine current or former world champions in either rapid or classical chess: Anatoli Karpov, Garry Kasparov, Boris Spassky, Vasily Smyslov, Veselin Topalov, Viswanathan Anand, Ruslan Ponomariov, Alexander Khalifman, and Rustam Kasimdzhanov.

I'm marginally acceptable and badly out of practice.
Don't feel bad. You can't be good at everything.

Kicking this because I used to be ranked in chess (in high school and college, 83-87) and have been following her career ever since she beat Karpov (who is, in my opinion, the strongest player out there).

The chess world, as a whole, have accepted her despite her gender... wich did and did not surprise me. It surprised me because chess is still a predominantly male game. Nine out of ten players at any match are male, and is a very insular and little world. Did not surprise me because for the most part, chess players don't really care about who they win against, as long as they win.
