Meet the 'Nice Guy' Pickup Artists

...

Except their videos aren't harmless; they promote rape culture. Consider this video on "How to Get Laid By Setting Up Your Room," which has over half a million views. Some tips I learned before I got too grossed out to continue watching: fluffy blankets will entice your date to lie down and want to cuddle, which "leads to oral sex and then, you know, insertion." It's "counterproductive" if she sits anywhere else but on your bed, so put random objects on all of the chairs in your room! Offer to give her a massage, then tell her her shirt is getting in the way, then sneak her bra off until "bang boom she's naked." Always have alcohol lying around, because "girls feel like they need to drink to relax for some reason, which is good for you" because "if you even have a sip of alcohol you're allowed to do stuff with her." Christ. Why don't you just roofie her before she walks in the door to save time and energy?

There's been a lot of discussion lately about whether "nice guys" can be rapists. The answer is no; you can not be "tricked" or "confused" into raping anyone. That's why, even though Kong, Jesse and Jason aren't the first pickup artists out there and they won't be the last, they need to be called out for trying to rebrand pickup culture as something that's not only for creeps who want to get laid by any means possible but for the average well-meaning Joe, too.

...

The first words you hear in the trailer — after "That girl. Right there. Go" — is "ass ass ass ass" and "motorboat time!"; the rest of the video doesn't deviate from their YouTube channel in the slightest. Since when does improving your social life require treating women as objects to be won and then fucked before they even know what's happening to them? It doesn't.

These aren't nice guys. They're dicks who treat dating like a video game and women as shiny gold collateral; the more you collect/bang, the higher your self-esteem rises, and the easier it is to forget that you're an insecure shell of a person.

....I'll show it to my wife tonight and she will laugh her azz off at it and will probably send it to her female friends.

Most women if they found themselves in these scenarios would laugh and tell the guy what a pathetic idiot he is and walk out....

Fluffy blankets lead to sex?? LOL

Offer to give her a massage, then tell her her shirt is getting in the way, then sneak her bra off until "bang boom she's naked."

Well good massages and spooning do often lead to forking.

3rd in her class rank of Veterinary Science Ohio State class of 1987..has her own vet practice with 16 employees. which she started from scratch.

She does not get offended over such miniscule stuff..does not go out blaming men for every perceived little infraction as some people do.. "oh woe me I am a victim"..Tough as nails cowgirl who does not take shit from anyone.

The video in question is a stupid azz video that most real men and women would laugh at.

I'm not being dismissive over rape, assault or bullying of women..by men of any age the video in question is much ado about nothing.

The "Crazy Girlfriend" videos and meme's put out by that woman are much in the same vein.. they are done in humor and men and women laugh at them.

even if they laugh at it. It still normalizes it. They laugh at it for being "lame" but don't recognize it as a joke about rape.

They see these rape tactics and the joke isn't that they're rape tactics but that they are, as you said, "lame" rape tactics. They're not good at it - that's the joke. This still supports rape culture even if people see that it's a joke.

don't think that "jokes" that normalize rape culture are a problem?

I don't think they are joking but I honestly don't give a shit.

The point (which you, your awesome wife, and anyone else who agrees that laughing is the best response to this is failing so hard to note) is that shit like this normalizes rape culture.

There are two kinds of rape jokes. Those that illustrate how fucked up rape and rape culture are, and those that portray it as a laughing matter. Guess which one you just laughed at.

And again, whether they're even joking isn't a settled matter. You casually excused their rape tips and rape apologia by spinning it as humor, after watching one video. Interesting...

Like fitman says, it's a stupid diversion, to be ridiculed by most people with brains, attempted by a few insecure losers, and forgotten in next week's new website material. If one of my daughters was to enter this douche bags love nest, she would giggle, make a sarcastic crack as to the desperation level, then move one of the "random objects" and sit in a chair. You are diluting actual rape by lumping this in with it.

It's also an accurate example of a very popular strain of thought... a variation to be sure, an amateurish attempt to be sure, yet still an apt and accurate example of a very popular strain of thought which, in far too many circles, simply sees women as little more than a tactical objective.

And that, I believe, is the entire point of this particular thread... regardless of how others may rationalize it or derail it.

Are there those who suggest that men DON'T plan to try to get laid and talk about how, when, what, why, where, with who etc and then proceed to imply that their female partner is a slut, stupid, easy, freaky, 'I did this and she let me do that'? (Being immune from sluthood themselves)

I mean the term is just awesome no matter who says it, but its extra super awesome when it"s a man saying it, especially in a feminist group.

Another super great thing is when they tell is how this woman they know / are related to would agree with them, so there.

Is this is part of a trend, the video many would find ludicrous, but men who feel entitled to sexual activity just by the condition of gender, look at this kind of thing, form some kind of 'plan' to get laid, while devaluing women. I doubt your strong independent wife thinks that behavior is particularly amusing. She probably thinks they're assholes, as any reasonable woman would.
