Think rapists and abusers are bad?

What's worse is making sure they have access to guns so they can commit their violence more effectively and fatally. Here is a thread about a recall of a Colorado politician who promoted a measure to keep guns out of the hands of rapists and those who beat their partners.

I'm a regular contributor to this group, and you're telling me I've hijacked it? Believe it or not, HOF members care about violence committed against us, as insignificant as you may or may not find those crimes or our lives. Misogyny that affects government policy very much concerns feminists.

We have an element in Colorado as we do elsewhere in the nation that believes in open carry any weapon anywhere in the country. They even want guns on campus. And in SC I think guns in bars are legal. And the gun nuts insist on NO background checks. That is a recipe for chaos. The two massacres we have had in Colorado would prove one thing. Additional armed civilians in a shoot situation would massively complicate any situation. The authorities arriving on the scene would have no way of knowing who the good guys are and most likely would shoot anyone with a gun.

Plus in a firefight most gunfire is innaccurate. TV and the movies where the good guys hit on the first shot is a complete myth. And as far as the theater shooting the shooter had body armor, there was darkness, smoke and people running everywhere. Even experienced officers would have gotten hit.

One of our local state reps was in Kansas with some legislators there. He asked where does it stop do you think a person should have a bazooka. They said yes. He asked if a person should own a military machine gun. They again said yes. And he asked why and they said to protect yourself from government.

How damned crazy do we have to be. What about hand grenades, grenade launchers, howitzers et al.?

However, since this is the History of Feminism group, I posted the link because of the impact on violence against women. Feel free to cross-post your thread in the Gun Control Reform Activism group. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1262
People there will be very interested, and that forum allows for a fuller discussion of gun policy.
Some HOF members are strongly anti-gun, some pro-gun, and most somewhere in between. What we share in common, however, is a strong desire to see violence against women curtailed. Members here, regardless of their views on guns, will find a troubling a recall that seeks to protect those who inflict violence against women.

Sincerely, it's an really really important issue but really poorly articulated as composed.

I hope someone will repost the facts and the consequences that are easily derived therefrom.

Argh.

Many of the women who are murdered by their partners or ex partners are murdered by abusive monsters who terrorize them using guns.

Yeah that sentence sucked, I don't care. I hate this world today.

Under fear of death by partners, who keep weapons. I don't have any links to the "proof", but it is a well kept American, secret, that many Battered Women's shelters, fill up, this time of year, when the gun humpers, go hunting.
