Hatred for women, believed to be motive for last night CA mass shooting

http://www.independent.com/news/2014/may/23/shooting-isla-vista/

In a YouTube video titled “Elliot Rodger’s Retribution” and posted the day before the shooting, Rodger — a Santa Barbara City College Student and Isla Vista resident, according to his social media accounts — laments his life of “loneliness, rejection, and unfulfilled desires.” He blames women for throwing themselves at “obnoxious brutes” but rejecting him, “the supreme gentlemen.”

All these 'nice guys' (tm) think women avoid them because they are 'nice', when in reality they are misogynistic, hateful, selfish, and in some cases, crazier than a bag of cats.

Women are objects from which to get satisfaction, and if they are not owned by other men, there's no reason why Nice Guys (tm) shouldn't use them to get sex.

Except that you can tack on what they perceive as their additional humiliation of being rejected in favor of other women. Not to mention the religious validation of rejection to male sexual advances as being abnormal, sinful, etc.

"It's not fair. You girls have never been attracted to me. I don't know why you girls have never been attracted to me, but I will punish you all for it. It's an injustice, a crime, because I don't know what you don't see in me. I'm the perfect guy, and yet you throw yourselves at all these obnoxious men, instead of me, the supreme gentleman."
"I will punish all of you for it," he says again, and then he laughs.

"On the day of retribution I will enter the hottest sorority house of UCSB, and I will slaughter every single spoiled stuck up blonde slut I see inside there. All those girls that I've desired so much, they would have all rejected me and looked down upon me as an inferior man if I ever made a sexual advance towards them. While they throw themselves at these obnoxious brutes. I'll take great pleasure in slaughtering all of you. You will finally see that I am in truth the superior one. The true Alpha Male."

Is stuff you read all over the MRA manosphere. He sounds just like them. Not surprised to see he reading and wallowing in it.

I saw that and thought "what mass shooting"-- because I didn't know, I read that it and thought this is what MRA ideology can lead to.

Edit-- women are killed everyday by violence specific against their gender, from serial killers to intimate partner violence. MRA's-- of which we have a number of here on DU, are a designated hate group, and while I'm just sick about this, I'm horrified at my lack of surprise.

and constant feature is access to guns. Easy access to a gun is the reason some troubled person transforms from someone fuming on Facebook or grousing in his mom's basment into the most recent murderer. It really doesn't matter what the killers underlying twisted reasons were. Mental health issue, abuse, passion, anger...whatever the reasons, those have always been with us.

The US is awash in guns, and gun lovers, so it's not a surprise when some dissed and disgruntled dude can so easily turn his hate into deadly violence...

We only hear about the mass shootings, but of course the grim drumbeat of homicides goes on day after day after day.

consistent with the so-called men's rights screed, this guy is absolutely soaked in entitlement.

It's like that "drafting" for dates, you get the idea that some men think they should get together and distribute the hot women in some fashion they think is fair. If they afford more, or fight the other guys for it, they should get a "hotter" girl as a reward. No.

14. From Skepchick
Sat May 24, 2014, 02:44 PM
May 2014
Society tells men that if they’re “Nice Guys,” they are entitled to women’s bodies and time. So you can’t be surprised when some men take that as an edict to take what is theirs by violence. You certainly can’t be surprised that men like Elliot Rodger think violence is justified, when Men’s Rights leaders like Paul Elam tell their readers to beat up women:

“I don’t mean subdue them, or deliver an open handed pop on the face to get them to settle down. I mean literally to grab them by the hair and smack their face against the wall till the smugness of beating on someone because you know they won’t fight back drains from their nose with a few million red corpuscles. And then make them clean up the mess.”
Of course, instead of talking about these issues, the media will likely default to the usual armchair diagnosis and hand-wringing fuckery about how Elliot Rodger was “crazy” and “mentally unstable.” It has already begun with Sheriff Brown who told reporters,”It’s obviously the work of a madman.” Spoiler Alert: Unless you were Elliot Rodger’s therapist, you don’t get to diagnose him. To do so is not only actively contributing to mental illness stigmatization, but it’s perfectly plausible that it’s not even accurate. To quote Miri Mogilevsky of Brute Reason, “It is not actually ‘crazy’ to believe stuff that’s been shoved down your throat from birth.”

to indicate that this guy had Aspergers.

Aspergers seems to be being slotted in where "mental illness" used to be in the arguments against gun control in the wake of a mass shooting. Even when it is completely unrelated.

This young man's illnesses were multi-layered. The Aspergers no doubt lent itself to his social awkwardness but I am rather alarmed to see how that diagnosis is so easily bandied about these days. Aspergers doesn't turn a young man into a misogynistic mass killer but it serves as a handy label for shallow journalism and armchair psychiatrists.

Sorry I don't have the url handy. If I wasn't so beat right now I'd do a search. It was reported that he was under the care of several therapists and was diagnosed as having Aspergers but at a level where he was considered "high functioning".
I've known a number of people in my life with Aspergers but NONE have ever shown the slightest aggressive behaviors, just social awkwardness. I'm concerned that in the media frenzy for a quick story people will latch on to "Aspergers" as an explanation (and a false one) and we'll never have a deep, public discourse about the real problems at the root of this tragedy.
