What are the rules on quoting books? I'd like to serialize some, not all, of a book that I'm reading

I want to post it to my journal here, along with the link to the googlebook.

Just selected SHORT pieces, as conversation starters, I hope, or at least stuff that I'd like to think about some more myself. The problem I forsee is there'd be maybe a kind of long series of separate posts containing short quotes. Should I get permission from the author?

If I put it in my own Journal, do I have to ask permission of a DU group it relates to? which is Economy & Education > Labor Movement?

It's an important topic about what grassroots' populism really is, similarities that cross rhetorical/political boundaries; here's a link:

What do you think?

If you keep the excerpts short, you'll probably be fine.

You can post them anywhere you like, if it is relevant.
