My first reaction on reading that you don't like "crap music" was to think of Louis Armstrong's remark, "There is two kinds of music, the good, and the bad. I play the good kind." I agree with him, he played the good kind. On the other hand, I have an absolute passion for Mozart, a love that is not shared by all.

I'm eclectic when it comes to what I think is crap and it ranges from Blur to Creed and a whole lot of crap inbetween....

I start with Mozart -- which is not boring -- and go on to ragtime and stride piano. Not long after we were married, my wife said that if when I was practicing the piano, she heard me play "Scott Joplin's New Rag" or "A Fistful of Keys" one more time, she would scream. So I played "Peacherine Rag" and then "Ain't Misbehavin'". She screamed.

Right now, I'm listening to Paul Simon's Graceland. After that, it will probably be Dan Bern's New American Language, or possibly Mozart's Great Mass in C, where both the Kyrie and the Laudamus Te from the Gloria send shivers up my spine.

I was at a meeting once in an Australian company whose subsidiary I worked for was considering setting up a manufacturing plant in New Guinea. They were talking about one of their old mates from Australia (this was being discussed in Thailand) and somebody said,
"I dunno about him really, all he does is run after the Sheilas, chase the ponies and drink piss".

That really was a discussion stopper and everyone who knew him nodded in agreement.

After an awkward silence somebody said "well what was wrong with him?".

Chase the ponies = put a bet on at the races? My granddad used to call it 'putting a flutter on the gee-gees'...

I learn a lot by hanging out with the Americans here, and only rarely get caught saying something that I later find out Americans don't understand. My evil masterplan is to have you all talking the same way as me by late 2015!
