I had my 10 posts last Nov. 12 but got sick. Thought it was a cold that my wife and I kept passing back and forth.
Then I got a little better for a few weeks.
Then on Dec. 14,2012, the same day as the Sandy Hook shootings I had what the doctors called "a pulmonary event". One lung was filled with fluid and the other was half full. Everyone says that I am lucky that I'm still here. According to my wife, the doctors said if I had gotten to the ER 30 minutes later it might have been to late.
After 2 weeks in ICU they discharged me to a nursing home for rehab. I was there from Dec. 29, 2012 until April 24,2013. I've had to learn to walk and didn't much feel like doing to much else until recently.
It's been and is going to be a long haul and I think that I might have left rehab to soon, if I can't get around well enough in 3 weeks I'm going to have to go back in for more rehab. (My timeline and the doc agrees)
That's the Readers Digest version of the Readers Digest version of a long story that I won't bore you with.
I just want to say that it opened up my eyes to things about my life that I'm in the process of changing for the good.
And all it took was a trip to the ER at 57 years old.
I'm glad DU has been around. I've really enjoy it and have been reading it for several years. Don't know why I didn't join earlier. Just one of those things I guess.
Well, glad to be here. A word, I can tend to run on and on and on and on.
You've been warned!
Thanks

(1,408 posts)As long as I've been reading DU I feel that I know a few people here.
Someone once said...
Families are like fudge... mostly sweet with a few nuts.
And I've never been called one of the 'fudge' of my family.
So if you can put up with me...Here I am.

I'm glad you are back and on the mend. Good luck with your rehab activities.

(1,408 posts)The biggest problem is I want to do to much to fast. I've come to find out that isn't a good plan now that I'm not in my 20's or 30's any more. It takes a little longer for the body to heal and get stronger.
