(Nevada) Gun background check bill clears Legislature, sent to Sandoval
CARSON CITY — A bill mandating background checks for most gun sales passed the Assembly on Monday, sending the measure to Gov. Brian Sandoval despite a veto threat.
The vote was 23-19, with four Democrats joining 15 Republicans in opposing the bill.
Senate Bill 221, sponsored by Sen. Justin Jones, D-Las Vegas, has generated intense lobbying efforts on both sides of the issue.
In a surprise move it passed out of the Assembly Judiciary Committee on a 7-5 vote. It already passed the Senate.
