Are Catholic conservatives turning on Cardinal Timothy Dolan?

David Gibson

NEW YORK (RNS) Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s positive reaction to this week’s decision by organizers of New York’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade to allow gay groups to march under their own banners initially drew charitable responses in many Catholic Church circles.

But it didn’t take long for conservative church critics to turn.

After initially signaling his grudging acceptance, William Donohue of the Catholic League came back with a revised view when he realized that more than one gay group could be allowed to march in the future.

is a pustule. Fortunately, he does not speak officially for the Church, only for an extremely conservative faction who'd defct to the Southern Baptists if only the SB's would learn Latin.

that the Pope didn't really mean what he said, I'm wondering if Papa Francisco called the Cardinal to heel on this. We'll know a lot more after the bishops meet this fall, but I see this as another reason to be cautiously optimistic.

stay on course. The "barque of Peter" isn't a simple fishing boat anymore. It's an aircraft carrier, and getting one of those mothers turned around takes enormous energy and more than the half-minute some of the yowlers apparently gave Francis to completely reform the Church.

a credible source for that statement.
His pronouncements against violence in the various Middle-Eastern countries do doubt inflames any generic hatred they would have of him as an "infidel".

given Francis' penchant for riding in open cars, and driving himself, the security must have concerns, and not just from ISIS.
