my good news for the day

a friend and I decided to take a little stress-relieving drive earlier today. we took a break for lunch, and came out to discover that the battery was dead (and she had forgotten to put the jumper cables back in her car). Two of the other patrons spent several minutes searching their truck for jumper cables, but could not find them. A couple of minutes later, a young woman and her two children came out, and offered to help. While they were hooking up the cables, the young son (about 8 or 9) offered to start his mother's vehicle, swearing he knew how. We all told him how much we appreciated his offer, but his mother suggested that perhaps she ought to do it.

A few minutes later, thanks to the kindness of strangers in a stranger town, we were on our way--with smiles for the boy who insisted he knew how to operate the vehicle.

Simply because I knew it was going to be a good news story! It kind of sheds a little light on the fact that my approach to reading other stories always has me a little on edge about its outcome without me even realizing it.

Your story reaffirms the notion that people are basically kind and friendly and helpful. Thank you! I didn't realize how much I needed this!

that that is not representative of the whole population. According to studies, we are actually hard-wired to be cooperative, kind and helpful. Apparently in some, the wiring malfunctions in a large way.

I am so thankful for this forum for this very reason.
