PLEASE READ AND GIVE YOUR OPINION! - Forum rules, regulations, best practices. PRE sticky.

Hi guys and welcome to the DU Movies group. I hope everyone enjoys this as a comfortable open place to discus all things movie related. I don't have hosting privileges yet so I can't sticky anything but I thought it would be a good idea to post this early anyway. If and when we get hosts this can be stickied later.

Also this gives everyone a chance to vote on the ideas here so we can all come to a consensus on what the rules here should be. Please read the following and let me know if you disagree with anything, or would like to add to this.

Here's what I'm thinking.

This forum is for the discussion of movies (past, present, and yet to be released), the movie industry, movies as an art form, actors and actresses, movie reviews, trailers, meta discussion on movies etc. In other words this is a group for entertainment discussions.

What I'd like to leave out of this group are discussions that have little to do with movies and film. Even if they use movies as an entry point if the discussion / intent of the thread is to only discuss other topics these threads better belong in another forum or group and may be locked. If the topic deals with how these issues relate to the movie industry or a particular genre that's fine. Since this is a rather vague definition I think a lot of leeway should be given and most things should be left to slide. But I think we can agree the point of this group should remain film, entertainment and related topics.

Please be civil with each other here. We are all entitled to our own opinions and views and many of us have strong feelings about our favourite films and genres. This shouldn't be an excuse to belittle or denigrate anyone for their opinion if it conflicts with your own! A pattern of such activity may get you banned.

If a post contains spoilers and the film is newer than 5 years old please place spoiler warnings in the title! This is a compromise so that we don't have to place spoiler warnings in the majority of thread titles. Even in the case of older films it's still common courtesy to mention spoiler warnings in the body of the thread, but it won't be necessary to have it in the title.

I hope everyone enjoys their time here!

I think it's a good idea that people should warn others! The difficulty lies in boundary cases where the reviewer / poster didn't think they were spoiling anything but other's thought so.

In blatant cases most definitely *spoiler* tags! If you are going to give away critical plot twists and the like others deserve a warning. However I'm less clear what people think should be the rule when posting your own movie reviews that give away general plot points. Perhaps *Possible spoilers* ? But then that applies to just about any detailed review.

What do you guys think?

I'm ok with whatever the group members think is appropriate.

Do I need to include a *spoiler* tag for a discussion of Gone With the Wind (1939)? Or Iron Man (2008)? Or Frozen (2013 -- only been out eight weeks)?

I'd hate to have to put *spoiler* tags on every discussion of a film's plot. At some point, you have to assume that people actually know what Rosebud refers to!

Let's just say there's not going to be any banning over spoiler tags or lack there of. These are best practices. I agree for new movies spoiler and possible spoiler tags is a good idea.

How about we somewhat arbitrarily set the limit at 5 years. So any film older than 5 years old we don't expect to have to have spoiler tags, anything newer it would be best. Again these are best practices, so I'm not expecting people to be strongly policed over them, but it's a good idea to set some ground rules so we are all on the same page.

'cause Netflix wasn't really addressing the topic.

And here you are...taaa daaaaaaa.

Whoever started this group has my vote to be host.
In my expereince, hosts are generlaly needed, esp. at the beginning, to sticky things and moderate the ideas of a fledgling group..

I've already asked Skinner if I can be made a host. I'm glad you like the idea and support me being host.
