2020 Dems back legal marijuana in political sea change

BY REID WILSON - 03/06/19 06:00 AM EST

A generation ago, the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, Bill Clinton, insisted he had not inhaled marijuana when he smoked in college.

A decade ago, Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee who hung out with the Choom Gang in high school, offered tepid support for allowing those with medical needs to access marijuana.

Next year, the person who becomes the Democratic nominee against President Trump will almost certainly back full-scale federal legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes.

Virtually every major candidate running for president has publicly supported a raft of proposals to legalize marijuana, erase past convictions for minor possession and remove marijuana from the federal Controlled Substances Act.

Even those few who do not back recreational use support measures far more permissive than did Obama when he ran.

Then again cannabis should have never been made illegal in the first place. It was racism and greed that doomed the plant to prohibition. 😳👺😡

The "war on drugs" is a race war on the down low.

Always has been used to jail and ruin the lives of as many PoC as possible.

legal bowl, joint or blunt. All my activity of cannabis has been of the illegal stuff. I’ve never been in a dispensary. Not from not wanting to, but lack of a card. My change of address is what messed me up. I sent proof of my new address; not good enough! Maryland is so “ticky-tack!” 😡😳
