Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI need a pick me up.
I WAS feeling a bit discouraged today in light of the NYT endorsement but some savvy Berners responded and boosted my spirits.
This is now a "fire it up" thread.
Show me why our enthusiasm should not flag.
Let me have it Sanders group!

(10,345 posts)The NYT endorsement, nor ANY public newpaper endorsement for Hillary should ever be a surprise.
That said, here's your pick me up.

My selfie with Bernie in Greensboro, NC.

And the panorama that I took in Greensboro Coliseum. It was a 5000 capacity coliseum. How many showed up? 9000.

Don't worry friend. She may have the media and money. But we truly have the people. Notice how their biggest hope and fear is voter turnout? Because they KNOW for a fact that if voter turnout is high, Bernie will win.

(42,641 posts)Number one: the NYT has no vote. You,however, do.
Endorsements are nice, but only votes count. Some national unions have endorsed Clinton while member surveys show a preference for Sanders. Enthusiasm leads to energy, and energy is what the Sanders campaign has. I believe that the enthusiasm and energy will translate to turnout. Low Democratic turnout is far more responsible for GOP victories than any supposed turn toward conservatism.

(7,820 posts)If he can win Iowa (and he can) it's game on. We'll see the floodgates open, IMO. Voters will give him a serious look, and when they do they like what they see (not so much for Hillary)
And I genuinely believe if he can win the nomination, he'll be our next president. His honesty and message are the perfect antidote to Trump (who seems the most likely Rep nominee at this point) And his odds are good against the rest of the clown car.
I'm not saying it'll be easy- it won't. TPTB will fight tooth and nail. But he's tapping into something incredibly powerful. He can do this. WE can do this.

(4,775 posts)and a great pick-me-up for this thread. Lots of good Bernie musical vids. This old-timey Mr. Sandman vid also comes to mind:

(10,345 posts)We are a generation of internet consumers. A generation of skeptics. We don't subscribe to cable. We don't have land lines. We are much less racist than our parents and grandparents and it's only getting better. We dislike the establishment greatly and have always viewed big money as corrupt.
This is the reason Bernie's message carries so far, when it failed years before. We're the people of Gen X and Y. A generation that watched the Berlin Wall fall, and with it all the red baiting propaganda given to us by our own government. Many in Gen X learned first hand that our government could lie to us. Before that? Vietnam.
What did Generation Y see? The twin towers fell. And we watched a president lie about reasons to go into an expensive and senseless war.
These generations are the majority now. That's why Bernie will win. The days of old thought are fading fast.

(14,691 posts)There are still LTE complaining that Bernie's a socialist (GASP) or a Communist (nope) or a Marxist (not that either) and I always point out to them that this is 2016, not 1956 and the younger generation wasn't around for McCarthyism so they are immune to the Red baiting that might influence some older voters. (I'm a Boomer). This is 2016, not 1956.

(10,345 posts)But we are a curious generation and I've seen many of my generation really like the ideals of Marxism. So honestly, when people red bait, millienials have a knee jerk reaction to look at the word "socialist" and wonder, "what's so bad about it?"
Then they read into it and go "That... sounds alot like the way it's supposed to be."
My generation isn't dedicated to the hand that feeds it. We've been crushed beneath it's system since birth.

(11,366 posts)Of course, Bernie still has press and SS, now, but I still see more real people than people standing there doing a job.
