(14,177 posts)Being that I voted for Obama. Bernie is much closer to Obama's message IMO. Even if Obama did sort of say something about Unicorns. I remember when Obama himself was the unicorn promiser and I caught flack for that. And no I am not mad at Obama for calling Bernie a shiny new thing. I like that comparison.

(9,497 posts)bringing up the phrase the opposition used on Obama, the "magical...." and compared the present day slights against Bernie with it. It is like they don't even remember the slights against him, probably because they were h supporters back then, too.

(14,177 posts)he does either.
I can't imagine an Obama supporter saying some of the things that are said about Bernie.Like saying that raising taxes by a sliver of a percent would be bad even if it's to support maternity leave. Or that he isn't strong enough on foreign policy because he isn't hawkish enough. Or he doesn't have enough experience. It's ridiculous to think that an Obama supporter would automatically go to Hillary. Especially since a lot of Obama's appeal was that he was against the war in Iraq.

(5,066 posts)Is some of us do remember 2008 race.
Clinton is turning not only to right of obama but right of reagan who by today's standards would be a moderate.blasting bernie on Taxes and her hawkish attitude is something i thought i would never see by a leading dem.Lieberman was rejected in 2004.

(710 posts)I supported Obama and Bernie for same reasons; both were anti-establishment and not war hawks...

(199 posts)I'm one of those odd Obama/Sanders supporters...
With that said, these numbers seem wildly off. I think I heard that there were some 700,000 Sanders donors in January, so to think only 34,340 have donated to any of these three seems awful low.
I wouldn't argue with the percentages though.

(4,775 posts)but it counters a lot of spin you see here on DU, so the OP is excellent.
In 2008, Hillary was (like today) the establishment candidate, at least the one with the most support. Obama ran as the change candidate. Same thing this race.
Obama seemed to lose his change the day he took office to many of us.
We're still looking for what we thought we elected in '08. Bernie has a consistent life-long track record of being exactly that.
He'll have to make compromises and won't be able to wave a wand to enact his agenda, of course, but we know he's on our side, he won't be appointing people like Rahm and Geithner (etc. etc.) to his administration, he's the Real Deal.
