Bernie Sanders wants raw vote count released after tight finish in Iowa caucuses

Bernie Sanders has called on the Democratic party to release a raw vote count in Iowa after a nail-biting finish left lingering doubts over the first, much tighter-than-expected, clash with Hillary Clinton for the presidential nomination.

Speaking to reporters on a chartered plane flying from Des Moines to their next showdown in New Hampshire, the leftwing senator said his performance in the Iowa caucus was a signal that the American people were hungry for more radical change than that offered by establishment candidates.

“Tonight is a wonderful start to the national campaign,” Sanders said in a packed gangway on the late-night flight heading east to beat an incoming snowstorm. “Tonight shows the American people that this is a campaign that can win.”

He threw little light on an unfolding controversy over certain Iowa precincts that did not have enough Democratic party volunteers to report delegate totals for each candidate but did call on officials to take the unusual step of revealing underlying voter totals. Delegates are awarded in the Iowa Democratic contest on a precinct-by-precinct basis, irrespective of the state-wide vote for each candidate.

He doesn't do angry, per se. but he'll make any miscreants regret their folly.

Clinton campaign tried to be as mean and dirty as possible while Sanders ran a positive campaign.

Clinton needs to dump her corporate masters, 'cause this country could use her help rather than her ambition.

I hope all the precinct leaders took photos of every page of signatures. As a former precinct chair I can tell you that I've done this twice (most recently Obama in 2008) and when you call in votes you are on your honor. They better have kept all their back-up.

I say recount the votes and signatures. And I'm not sure I want "officials" ( Political appointees, right?) supervising the recount.

once after a primary vote in Virginia many years ago, and once after running a caucus here in Texas in 2008 (I was the co-leader). You are handed the slip of paper with the vote numbers on it by the workers who have tallied them. You call in and report the totals. That's how it works. I'd want that recount supervised by someone other than democratic party "officials" (they may be appointed, they may have just volunteered in their area because no one else did - seriously, it can be that casual).

I've never seen a system as stupid as what they use in the primary. It's much more suitable to use for deciding what kind of pizza your third grade class gets in their pizza party, not the nomination for who is going to represent a political party in the presidential race.

We have to fill out triplicate forms that show the total # of people caucusing, which person went for which candidate, and the calculations for each. There are also forms for people who registered that day, and already registered ones who participated. Each form that is used, save two, were done in triplicate, put into three separate envelopes and mailed. Results are also reported to party headquarters over the phone (at least that's how my precinct did it). The only forms that were not done in triplicate where the actual people who volunteered, or were picked, to be the delegates to the county convention.

So yes, we do have a raw vote count.

I thought Bernie had his own APP where he received tallies from his people/precinct.

Wouldn't this mean he has the raw votes and is challenging the Iowa Dem Party to release them or he will?

Hillary had an app and form. Bernie had an app, but I had trouble getting it, so I just used the form they gave me. I filled out the form and turned it in to the office. Both sides have a tally, and the state has a tally.

However, the captain on the hillary side jumped the gun and submitted incorrect data (she submitted a lower count on her side than there actually was - only by one but still incorrect).
