WASHINGTON Rep. Maxine Waters had a question.
She emerged on Capitol Hill on Thursday, after the cameras had gone and the spectacle was finished. The Congressional Black Caucus PAC had just endorsed Hillary Clinton, and nearly two dozen members of the CBC had stood behind a lectern and extolled Clintons many virtues, and criticized the plans and interests of Bernie Sanders. Our goal and responsibility is to make sure they do their homework, one lawmaker had said of young voters enamored by the idea of political revolution.
Waters, the California Democrat and Clinton supporter, did not participate and apparently had not watched.
After the event, with her colleagues mostly gone, Waters walked out and wanted to know: Had her colleagues publicly chastised young voters for their naivete?
Some lawmakers had, onlookers told her. Her face dropped.
You cant do that, she said. Thats why I cant stand behind them. Because I dont want my young people to think I think that way.
And off she went, flanked by an aide.

(8,879 posts)I majored in poli-sci and have been active and engaged in politics for years. Politics is my hobby and my life. Politics takes up more of my time than any other pursuit. For them to claim that we just don't know how government works is a direct slap in the face of my education, my understanding, my commitment, and my intelligence. No, the Clinton supporters do not hold a monopoly on political pragmatism or on knowledge of the machinations of our political system of governance. I'm getting really tired of being referred to as some sort of unicorn farmer who just doesn't get it. Oh I get it. I get it, and that is precisely what they're afraid of.

(3,623 posts)In my opinion Bernie is the cleaner candidate of the two and offers a very clear contrast to the public regarding campaign finance. The GOP is 100% owned by the corporations. Bernie is not. Hillary is a lot closer to the GOP than Bernie on this issue. She has no moral high ground in a general election regarding this topic, which just so happens to impact every other topic. She also has an open FBI investigation of her emails and charity. It will be a massive liability for her in the general election, regardless of whether Bernie is too nice to make it an issue in the primary.
